The NASCSAR community was shocked when it was announced that Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman was disqualified from the Roval playoff R-12 elimination race. His No:48 Chevy didn’t match the weight specification, so NASCAR gave HMS the opportunity to fill the car with fuel and all the fluid. But still the cars were underweight and it forced NASCAR make the tough call.
Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin discussed about the saga in his podcast Actions Detrimental. He has mixed emotions about HMS successfully overturning the decision from NASCAR with an appeal. If the previous HMS appeals and it results are factored in, it can be seen that every other decision came in their favor, so there is some hope.
But at the same time, the penalties from the past weren’t as black and white as it is now. HMS can’t do nothing about their cars, which is on the way to NASCAR HQ for further inspection. So, considering this fact, Hamlin feels the team is screwed and they will fail to over-turn the decision with an appeal.
Denny Hamlin is glad to make it into the R-8 with HMS
The Joe Gibbs Racing veteran had a tough R-12 and it gave them positive momentum going into the R-8. He pointed out that the premotion has given them great vibe and pointed out that his team did an impressive job, with the strategies.
The 23XI Racing co-owner seems to be really confident going into the next round of the playoffs and this gives them a positive momentum, in the championship chase. It will be interesting to see how Denny Hamlin will be performing in the coming races.
