Coming into the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season, Denny Hamlin, who had 54 cup race wins to his name had one goal and it wasn’t winning his maiden title, it was getting into 60-win milestone. On Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday he became only the second active driver, alongside ex-teammate Kyle Busch to get past the record number and is expected to be last driver to do it.
Luck played a significant role in the No:11 Toyota Camry drivers’ win, as initially in the race he couldn’t close the gap to effectively to Hendrick Motorsports duo of Kyle Larson and William Byron, despite starting on the pole. But with the No:24 team crashing out and No:5 team losing position due to a late caution, Denny Hamlin was able to get over the mark surviving a slow pit stop at the end.
The No:11 driver was very emotional after the win, with his family in attendance and his father Dennis Hamlin, who is ill getting the opportunity to watch his son past the milestone, getting close finally winning his maiden title. With teary eyes the veteran dedicated his wins to his parents and highlighted the sacrifices they made for him.
[He’s] just not doing well, not feeling well. He’s the one that got me into racing, took me to a racetrack when I was 5, then made all the sacrifices financially to keep me going…They sold everything they had. We almost lost our house a couple times and just tried to keep it all going. So, I’m glad he was able to see 60. That was super important to me.

Adding his 6th win of the 2025 season to the bag, Denny Hamlin has completed his goal and the next target, winning the title on his maiden championship-4 appearance in the Next-Gen era will be a massive bonus. He is okay if he failed in the Phoenix finale, though this might be his last chance, as he has exceeded the hopes, he had had for himself.
Is this my last chance to do it? Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. I just know I’m going to do the work, and I hope it works out. If it doesn’t, I’m going to be OK with it. I’ve had a season that far exceeded what I thought it would.
Denny Hamlin asserted.

The Joe Gibbs Racing veteran driver shared his thoughts on the challenging times ahead of him in the season finale. He will be nervous about it and this feeling has been the factor that cost him victories over the years. Hence this year he is determined to control his feelings, nervous about what he can control and expects the tide to eventually turn to his favor.

But I’m going to be nervous about the things that I control, not the other things. You guys have seen it. There’s been weird and crazy things that have kept me from winning a title or advancing to have a chance to. I’ve said many times, if you get enough chances, like eventually just the tides will turn. Did they start turning today? Maybe.

The comments from the Joe Gibbs Racing driver shows not just the confidence he has gained with the dominant runs, but also the confidence of the No:11 crew, new crew chief Chris Gayle and the whole team of Joe Gibbs. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the coming years.
