Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin is in the midst of controversy second week in running, and this time it’s Bubba Wallace whose race got ruined. The 23XI Racing driver has just half a lap left to win, the No:11 Toyota made contact from behind and send him to the wall, giving Chase Elliott the opportunity to steal the win.
Last week Denny Hamlin spun out Ty Gibbs the week before at New Hampshire during a heated duel. Him being one of the most hated racers in the garage and the incidents involving drivers who he should give some slack to; the community didn’t hesitate to call out the veteran. A post on X from a fan calling him careless got Hamlin’s attention.
…I think what Denny did was more careless. With no power steering I feel like Denny drove it in with the mindset of ‘if he’s in the wall so be it.’ Not only did he take himself out, he took out his driver and possibly a shot at any 23XI driver in the R8 and gave the win to a Chevy. Not smart.

Responding to the post immediately, the three times Daytona 500 winner urged the fans to give him a break. From the veteran’s perspective, it seems to be rational demand as it’s the second week he is getting the stick for trying hard to get his team a win. He declared he hit the break before the contact, tried to turn the car, but the aero didn’t allow him to do so.
Give me a break. I was off the gas and on the brakes 100yds before the 23 let off. I was turning as hard as I could given the aero situation. 11 team deserved that race. It didn’t work out.
Denny Hamlin replied on X.

Talking about the incident on his post-race interview, Hamlin explained it’s mechanical failure that cost him in towards the end of the race and caused the incident with Bubba Wallace. He didn’t have power steering, had low voltage and he is flying back home disappointed with the fact that he didn’t win the race, neither his driver Wallace.
Just mechanical failures and different things that have really hindered us in years’ past. We had no power steering that last run, low voltage, just a lot of things. Just disappointing because I don’t think I’ve ever had a car that good to the competition. I wanted it for my dad; I wanted it for everybody. Wanted it a little too hard.

Denny Hamlin is super disappointed with the result
Talking on the same interview earlier, Denny Hamlin declared that he is beyond disappointed with his results as he wanted the victory really bad, as it would have marked his 60th career win something he desperately wants. Him getting tight towards the end of the race while racing Wallace just gifted Chevy’s Elliott the win.

Just super disappointing, obviously. I wanted it bad. It would have been 60 for me and you know, the team just did an amazing job on the car. Really, really fast, gave me everything I needed. Got the restart I needed, just couldn’t finish it there on the last corner. Obviously, got really, really tight with the 23 [Wallace] and I got really tight, and we let the 9 [Elliott] win.

The comments from the 23XI Racing boss shows he tried too much to secure the win and just ruined the races for the whole TRD garage. There will be some rift between Hamlin and Wallace going forward. So, it will be great if Michael Jordan gets involved and talk with both, to make sure they move on from the incident before the Roval weekend.
