The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville last Sunday witnessed a controversial incident involving Bubba Wallace and Carson Hovevar. No:23 Toyota Camry spun out the No:77 Chevy on the final stage of the race, in misjudged attempt at retaliation. It ended up ruining the race for the 23XI Racing veteran as he had to retire, dropping him down from P3 to P11 in the championship table.

Now 23XI co-owner Denny Hamlin has talked about his driver Bulldozing the Spire Motorsports driver in the latest episode of his Actions Detrimental podcast. He asserted that Wallace was clearly frustrated with the whole race day, as he went from dominating the practice session at the start of the weekend to getting stuck in the midfield on Sunday.

It seemed like he was frustrated and wasn’t running as good as he was expecting to run. He mentioned it compared to where he was on Saturday; why all of a sudden is Sunday not going as planned.

Denny Hamlin said on his podcast.

This feeling, coupled with what Denny Hamlin explained the d*** move from Carson Hocevar made Bubba Wallace to respond the way he did. The Joe Gibbs Racing veteran pointed out that going to bottom and making the race three wide at Martinsville on the restart is a pretty bad move from the young racer.

That and it’s typically a d*** move if everyone’s restarting into Turn 1… On a restart, everyone’s got to check up for the corner…Carson’s says I’m going to go three-wide on a restart in Martinsville to the bottom. It’s not illegal, it’s just a d***move.

Denny Hamlin added via Actions Detrimental.

Further talking about the point, the veteran racer admitted that his driver Wallace didn’t like the way the young Hocevar took advantage drivers checking up for the corner. Unfortunately, the No:23 Toyota driver misjudged his move with the revenged and wrecked himself out in the incident.

He was trying to take advantage of the guys that were checking up for the corner, and Bubba didn’t like it. He says, ‘I’m going to run into your ass.’ He ran into his ass and wrecked himself.

Denny Hamlin asserted.

Bubba Wallace spotter calls out his driver over the Carson Hocevar incident

On the latest episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Bubba Wallace’s spotter Freddie Kraft shared his thoughts on the incident. He called out his driver for making the mistake and the self-inflicted incident that caused him a lot position in the points table.

We went from third in points to now we’re tied for eighth with five other guys. Essentially, we’re 11th in points and it can’t happen. You can’t have those moments and if you wanna be a contender for the championship or a contender to be top-five, top-seven, eight in points, whatever it is, that sh*t can’t happen. Unfortunately, we ended our day yesterday self-inflicted.

Freddie Kraft said.

The comments from the veteran are on point and he needs to talk with his driver about cleaning up his racing more, as the new championship format won’t tolerate such mistakes. If he wants to make it into the playoffs this season, the No:23 team should not have another DNF in the 2026 season.
