The 2024 NASCAR Cup season has witnessed multiple races going into overtime and the fuel milage dictating the results. The last weekends race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which marked the return of Brickyard 400 after three-year break, was no different as Kyle Larson took advantage of leader Brad Keselowksi running out of fuel to secure the win.

On the penultimate re-start of the race, Brad Keselowski was forced to pit just ahead of the green flag as his car was almost out of fuel. This helped HMS’s Kyle Larson to inherit the leading position on the bottom lane and eventually the win. JGR championship contender Denny Hamlin is getting tired of such races.

In his podcast Action Detrimental he passionately spoke about how running half-throttle with fuel millage in mind every race is tiring for him. He wants it gone for racing’s sake despite the fact that it has helped the No:11 Toyota driver to secure some good finishes this season as well. His opinion might resonate with many of the fans.

I’m so tired of running fuel mileage races where we’re all running half-throttle. I wish we could do something about it, but it’s like… I don’t know, it helps you sometimes, it hurts you sometimes. I just think for the racing’s sake, man do we really want NBC to have to sit here and explain all these different things and fuel? Don’t you want to see us out there racing and you know that hey that car out front, he got to the lead because he’s the fastest car or whatever?

Denny Hamlin shares his verdict on controversies over inconsistent ruling from NASCAR

One of the biggest controversies from the Brickyard 400 was the second over-time restart where NASCAR delayed the caution call after Ryan Preece’s wreck. This was disappointing for the fans as it highlighted how inconsistent the sanctioning body has been with decision making. Denny Hamlin joined the fans in showing dislike over it.

This is what we’re talking about, NASCAR. This is your inconsistencies that people gripe about, and they have a right to gripe because it is so inconsistent. You can’t decide whether you want the caution, or you don’t want the caution. And so, that’s the agitating part of it.
Denny Hamlin said.

NASCAR needs to be more consistent with its decision making in the coming races should avoid the delays such as the one from Brickyard 400. It would be interesting to see how the sanctioning body would react to the backlash.
