In Short
  • Denny Hamlin aims for a total of 67 career race wins before retirement.
  • He believes he can achieve this by averaging four to five wins per year.
  • Hamlin's recent Las Vegas victory was particularly special, celebrated with family present.

Denny Hamlin has been enjoying quite a career in recent years as he continues his winning momentum. Despite suffering from a disappointing end to the championship in 2025, Hamlin has returned to the grid and is looking stronger than ever. The JGR veteran recently won the Las Vegas Race and picked up his 61st race victory. Now, the 45-year-old sets a realistic goal for the maximum races he can win before retirement.

Despite being over 45 years of age, Denny Hamlin hasn’t slowed down with age. Rather, he won the most races in 2025 and is also looking forward to keeping up with the achievements this time around. However, Hamlin’s retirement is coming earlier than people expected, as he might exit the sport after the culmination of the 2027 season. As such, the JGR star believes that he only has a handful of more race wins in him.

Denny Hamlin firmly believes that he might end up with around 67 total race wins in his career before retirement. If Hamlin aims to retire by the coming year, he might fall around this figure in terms of race wins. Certainly, he can pick up many more wins if he keeps racing in the sport as the other veterans have.

Further, Denny Hamlin explained that there was no concrete reasoning behind hoping for a total of 67 race wins. But it is merely where he believes the numbers would land, keeping in mind the average race wins he is achieving every year. The 45-year-old reckoned that he averages around four to five race wins a year, and hence, he would finish his career by the time he reaches 67 career race wins.

I think I’m going to fall in at 67. That’s where I think it ends, more than likely. If it goes into the next year, more than likely 67. That’s just by the numbers. That’s not any ‘I feel this, I feel that.’ That’s just where the numbers land, averaging what I average, three or four wins a year.

Denny Hamlin reveals why the Las Vegas victory meant ‘more’ to him

Denny Hamlin was able to pick up his 61st career win with his entire family present at the event, even his mother, with whom he shared an emotional moment after winning the race. The 45-year-old was joined by his wife and kids on the winning podium. As such, Hamlin believed that this moment was much more special than any other, and winning in front of family meant much more to him.

Hamlin accepted that it was cool to FaceTime his family and talk to them after winning the race, it was nowhere near similar to the feeling of them being physically present in the race. Even his wife and kids would have a great memory of seeing their father achieve something phenomenal in NASCAR. Meanwhile, watching the moment on the TV did not create a special memory like it did while attending the race.

While it’s cool to be able to FaceTime them like we probably did in Victory Lane at Vegas in the fall, just nothing beats when they’re actually there because they get to that they get to create that memory. They’re not going to remember watching 60 on TV.

Denny Hamlin noted.

Certainly, life hasn’t been easy for Denny Hamlin the past couple of months. However, he has surely not let his personal problems slow down his professional life. Hamlin looks stronger than ever and is looking forward to the challenge. Now, the Goodyear 400 at Darlington is up next, and the 45-year-old anticipates chaos at the upcoming race.
