The NASCAR community is back in the court and Denny Hamlin has found himself in the middle of the legal drama yet again. His team Joe Gibbs Racing filed an $8 million lawsuit against ex-competition director Chris Gabehart accusing him of data theft and violation of exit agreements. They claim the former No:11 TRD crew chief has stolen sensitive data to use for his new team Spire Motorsports.
On his Actions Detrimental podcast Denny Hamlin explained the allegation are pretty serious and admitted that he is really disappointed to see his close associates at odds. He was against asked about the lawsuit ahead of the COTA race week and he highlighted how if the data leak allegation is true, the team won’t have a shot at a comeback in the Next-Gen era as every small trade secret makes massive differences.
I’ve shared you know the thoughts I had on Monday on it on why it’s really important for these teams to be able to protect their information because there’s honestly no going back. Yeah, it’s if somehow your information gets out, there’s no going back until there’s another new car, and who knows when that will be.

In his recent public statement, Chris Gabehart shared his thoughts on the situation and asserted that the issue should not have been made public. The lawsuit has exposed the ugly side of the JGR management dynamic that should have been kept behind the door. The senior Spire official is working with the Chevy team get over the chaos.
With all the momentum the sport currently has, I think this is a very unfortunate spot for the sport to be in, in the public light. In my view, this is something that could have been taken care of behind closed doors. But I can respect the fact that we are working our way through it and will continue to do so as long as it takes.
Chris Gabehart insisted.
Chris Gabehart regrets Ty Gibbs beef becoming public
The lawsuit made Gabehart to make public comments that hinted at beef with Ty Gibbs, the no:54 diver and co-owner of JGR. The Spire official talked about it and admitted that he regrets the comments, highlighting how the TRD racer has been having a tough time in the top division.

I understand the public narrative that has come along with the things that I’ve been forced to say in public about the 54 and thus Ty Gibbs and the family. But those have nothing to do with this. As a matter of fact, deep down, I believe Ty is a really good person who has been dealt a really tough hand the last three years.
Chris Gabehart said.
He asserted that his comments against Joe Gibbs’ grandson weren’t personal and asserted that he has nothing against the Gibbs family. He made the comment, to prove his argument that he had to leave JGR.
This is not about Ty personally. This is not about the family personally. It’s more about understanding my story and why we got to where we got. Because it is relevant and does matter to me.
Chris Gabehart added.
The comments from the veteran shows how chaotic the situation is right now and how the result of the lawsuit is going change then sport forever. Gabehart’s career as well as JGR’s future in the Next-Gen era will depend on the results.
