Spire Motorsports star driver Carson Hocevar is one of the most divisive figures in the sport at the moment. He is infamous for his aggressive driving style and bold responses to them in the media as well as on social media. The most recent addition to the drama was at Iowa Speedway last Sunday and JGR veteran Denny Hamlin is not happy with Chevy driver’s response to it.
Carson Hocevar was involved in an incident that took out Zane Smith, ruining his race and the Front Row Motorsports driver was furious. He called him out on team radio and later a crew member from FRM went onto confront the Spire driver post-race. In response to the drama, Hocevar posted a Instagram story with Drake’s “IDGAF” song in background, showing he doesn’t care.
Denny Hamlin addressed the whole drama in the latest episode of his Actions Detrimental podcast and pointed out that the attitude been shows by the young racer at the moment is going to hurt him in the long run. His chase for social media clicks will give his rivals more fuel to race him hard and even wreck him in such situations in the future.
It seems like Carson is definitely brushing it off to say, ‘Tough luck, buddy.’ That’s a tough way to live… It hurts you in the long run. If that’s the attitude you wanna have, it’s good for social media and it’s bad for on-track results. [Drivers are saying] ‘I don’t mind sticking that guy three-wide in the middle and if he’s an innocent bystander, so be it.
Denny Hamlin said via Actions Detrimental podcast.
He wanted the No:77 Chevy driver to just end the whole drama by admitting that he got lose and didn’t make the move intentionally, instead of adding fuel to the fire. Hamlin reminded the star driver that he shouldn’t be aggressive in situation where victory isn’t possible, as most often these battles for few points are worthless.
It was an accident; he got loose. Say ‘Sorry about that. I f*cked up, I got loose. I went into the corner, I shook the right rear out and I got into you. I apologize.’ Instead of ‘Ha, take a number.’ … I don’t know where they were running at the time, but when you’re doing it for a win versus when he whacked out Ricky [Stenhouse Jr.] for 15th or 20th, that’s just not the time.
Denny Hamlin added.
Denny Hamlin believes Carson Hocevar is going to pay for his actions
Further talking about the point, the veteran driver asserted that the incident wasn’t a produce of intentional wreck and Hocevar was innocent. But his social media actions invalidate the truth and in the long-run might influence drivers to freely wreck him. He expects the rival NASCAR cup drivers to make him pay for his actions.

I can tell you 100 percent, without a doubt, he did not purposely hit Zane Smith. It was an accident, but I’m telling you that it’s good for clicks and bad for results. I think he’s out for clicks right now…That’s my opinion. I could be wrong. You’re gonna be in contention and someone is gonna clean you out and they’re gonna say, ‘I took a number.’ I just feel you’re gonna pay.
Denny Hamlin asserted.
The warning from Denny Hamlin something Carson Hocevar should take into account, as the youngster is making enemies not only with big names of the sport, but also with the midfield drivers that he is regularly duelling. While some drivers will forget and move on from the drama, there are a few who are waiting for the right opportunity to make him pay.
