Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin is arguably the most hated driver in the current grid. He is one of the few drivers on the current grid that many are either a fan off or a hater, with nothing in between. Hamlin’s cocky comments, his run-ins with fan favorite drivers and his controversial opinions are some of the reasons for the hate.
Denny Hamlin got a similar reception last week at Bristol, where he and his driver Bubba Wallace was welcomed with chorus of boos by the fans. The Toyota driver talked about it on his podcast Action Detrimental. He admitted that he finds fans making a lot of noise in his intros, though it is boos, really cool and love making them feel that way.
But it’s cool by me honestly, when they boo and they make so much noise at driver intros, like, I love making them feel some sort of way.Denny Hamlin said via Action Detrimental.
He also talked about a troll at Bristol, who flipped him on every lap of the race. Hamlin hilariously admired the dedication the NASCAR fan and the proceeded to mock him, claiming how he is living rent-free on the guy’s head.
And for my buddy steel horse live, who tweeted that, look at this guy that flipped off [Hamlin] every lap he came back around. That’s dedication. I mean, that is someone that, oh, I am just burning up. I’m an ulcer in their body that is just eating them alive, and I love living rent free, yes.Denny Hamlin added.
Denny Hamlin explains his plans for reminder of the season
The Joe Gibbs Racing veteran secured an impressive P4 finish to secure his spot in the R-12 after struggling in the previous two races. He pointed out that his team will be going all out in the offense side in the coming races and will not be holding back as they did at the first two races of the post-season.
It's all offense from this point forward. So yeah, we're going to Kansas, a track we've been really good at, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the run.Denny Hamlin said.
This is the right approach from Denny Hamlin, and he should have been doing it from the start of the playoffs. He can use the growing hostility from fans in some track to his advantage and it will be interesting to see how the race would turn out for him.
