NASCAR has two major broadcasting partners at the moment. Fox Sports streams the first half of the season including the Daytona 500 while NBC Sports covers the second half of the season including the season finale. This inadvertently creates a situation where the media giants work on producing better quality broadcast and in the recent years, NBC has had the upper hand.
While discussing about the NBC’s coverage of Coke Zero Sugar 400, JGR veteran Denny Hamlin asserted that NBC does a good job in calling races. He highlighted how Jeff Burton and Steve Letarte let Leigh Diffey call the end of the race at Daytona and didn’t interrupt at all before the checkered flag.
They let him have it. They let him have the moment. Steve and Jeff, they didn’t get in it. They know that this guy’s the play-by-play, let him call it. We will react to what we just saw after the checkered flag.Denny Hamlin said via Action Detrimental.
According to Hamlin this hasn’t been the case for Fox Sports, whose race call is really chaotic. He asserted that at Fox everyone is trying to call the race on the last lap an it creates a mess. At the same time NBC does it properly and helps fans to have a better viewing experience.
That’s the little bit of the chaos that you have I feel like at Fox. It’s like everyone’s trying to call the last lap and it’s a little messy sometimes. But man, they nailed it. They nailed the finish, I mean it had me standing up in my chair the last lap, and I didn’t have a dog in the Harrison Burton/Kyle Busch fight.Denny Hamlin added.
Denny Hamlin admits last five days have been an absolute disaster for him
On the same podcast, Denny Hamlin also talked about the tough spot he is following the mega points penalty eh deserved for engine seal velation. He admitted that the deduction has soiled his team’s hard work and has put them in a situation which is not at all ideal to win a race.

The last five days have been an absolute disaster on my end. When you think I can’t get any unluckier, here we come…It’ll just make it more exciting when we have to overcome all this and finally do win a championship this year hopefully. It certainly is not ideal. With this three-race season about to start, certainly, I’m in a vulnerable spot right now in points.Denny Hamlin said.
The penalty ruined Hamlin shot at winning the regular season championship and the playoff point deduction has put him in a situation where he has no space to make an error in the last-16 rounds. It would be interesting to see how the penalty is going to affect Hamlin as the season progresses.
