The NASCAR Cup Series race at Nashville last Sunday so multiple moments of madness and drama. One such was the clash between Harrison Burton and Carson Hocevar. The Spire Motorsports driver frustrated with how he was raced wrecked the Wood Brothers Racing driver under caution. It caused a big rant from the WBR driver on team radio.
Carson Hocevar, who is known for being a repeat offender, didn’t get any fine or penalty from NASCAR over the incidents yet. JGR veteran Denny Hamlin, who always has called it what it is when it comes to the racing style of Hocevar, via his podcast has discussed the matter and called on NASCAR to take action.
He pointed out that the sanctioning body should penalize the No:77 Chevy driver and he would like it to be fine instead of a point-deduction. Hamlin wants NASCAR take into account the past incidents the young Spire driver has been part of including the crashes in the Truck Series, before making the final call on it.
I’m gonna call on NASCAR here — they need to do something to Carson. They don’t need to suspend him or anything like that, but they need to dig into his pocket a little bit because I think you have to — anytime you have someone that goes before a judge, they always take into account your past history. And we’ve seen this happen when he was in the Truck Series.Denny Hamlin said via Action Detrimental.
Denny Hamlin insists that Carson Hocevar deserves a penalty
While further talking about the same point, Hamlin asserted that it has been multiple times over the years that Hocevar has caused such incidents after a streak of clean racing. The JGR driver is adamant that NASCAR has to do something.
Carson goes through these moments where he’ll be fine and then all of a sudden, he’ll just lose it. Certainly, Harrison took exception to it as he should. The 77 crashed him under caution. You need to dig into his pocket. Points is whatever, I don’t really know if he cares about points. … You gotta do something.Denny Hamlin said.
The incident was one of the many Hocevar has been part of and most probably will be in the future, if NASCAR continues not punish him for his actions. The sanctioning body has step in as Hamlin advocated and make a statement out of it.
