Joe Gibbs Race veteran Denny Hamlin came into the Texas Motor Speedway with the goal of redeeming himself from the disappointing finish at the Talladega race. But fate had other plans for the veteran, who has already won tow races this season. He was forced to DNF from the race after a wild incident on lap 75.

Denny Hamlin was coming into the first turn on that lap, when all of the sudden his engine burst into flames. The veteran kept his cool, as the car was sliding on till the next turn and careful parked the car on the side, avoiding any incident’s before getting out of the vehicle without any help. Meanwhile the safety crew collected him, moved him to the infield care centre and put the fire out.

So, what actually went wrong for the No:11 TRD team? well Hamlin didn’t have the answer to that on his post-accident interview. The car’s engine juts bailed on him, with no warning as he was trying to settle into the race and now Joe Gibbs Racing has to do a thorough investigation onto what went wrong, to avoid future complications.

It missed for like three-quarters of a lap. But other than that, no (warning), nothing. They’ll take it back and look at it.

Denny Hamlin said after the race.

Further talking about the point, Denny Hamlin pointed out that he drove slower than the normal pace of the race in the lap after experiencing some missing in the lap, with the goal of not letting engines blow up. He didn’t want a situation where the manufacturer can’t find the root cause of the problem and pointed out that the Texas incident wasn’t too serious, hence they will be able find the topic.

I didn’t want to let it try to blow all the way, that way, we could at least take a look at it, try to figure it out. If you detonate them hard, then it’s really hard for the manufacturer to figure out exactly what broke first. But usually, the way it blew up, they’ll be able to find out.

It wasn’t the only wild incident Denny Hamlin was part of that day, as he his team also had a hilarious pit-stop. He lost a lot of time when the teams talked over each other on team radio, and Hamlin misunderstood the “Cowboys” code he heard. Hamlin had to return to the pit-box after missing the opportunity, owing to the mishap.

Denny Hamlin got a reality check on how much fans hate him

The Joe Gibbs Racing veteran is one of the biggest heels in the history of the sport and in almost every track he goes to, he gets booed by the race fans. This weekend race at Texas was no different as the Hamlin-haters were louder than usual, flipping the bird at him and throwing the F-bombs around.

Hamlin addressed the situation after the driver’s intro and admitted that it was one those days he received the most more FUs in his life. The incident has changed his thought that he was one of the guys who is on the fence of being a heel and now he realized he has already joined the ‘dark side’.

I walked out on stage and threw the horns down, and I never got more FUs in my life. I thought I was really just sort of a middle-of-the-road guy when it came to who fans liked or disliked…

This understanding might inspire the JGR veteran to embrace the villain role more than he is now and entertain the fan more. It would be interesting to see Hamlin’s villain role is going to evolve as the 44-year-old season progresses.
