The NASCAR Cup Series race at the Chicago streets was a dramatic event. Multiple drivers spun out in the race that saw rain delay and the wet track being the difference maker for a long-time in the race. Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman survived all the chaos and secured the race win, ending his winless streak that last over 80 races.

He was able to take advantage of early wreck of defending race winner Shane van Gisbergen and Tyler Reddick not having enough speed at the end to pull off a win. While Alex Bowman was celebrating the win waving at the fans in the cooldown lap, the No:23 Toyota of Bubba Wallace door slammed him.

It was an unexpected move from the 23XI Racing driver and dangerous as well. Bowman had the window net down during the cooldown lap and it could have gone south easily. Fortunately for both the drivers, nothing bad happened. The No:48 driver continued the celebrations while the Toyota driver went to the garage.

NASCAR most probably punish Bubba Wallace with a fine or a point deduction as it was serious offense. The sanctioning body penalized Carson Hocevar last week for wreck under a caution and many might expect NASACAR to give him the same treatment.

Fans have strong reaction “unsportsmanlike moment” at Chicago

The NASCAR fans on social media had some strong reactions to the situation. Many were quick to call out the driver for letting his anger get the better off him at the moment and asserted that he deserves a fine at least.

There were also some comments that to a limit justified what Wallace did, but even they were in agreement that it deserved to be penalized. There were few who were not fans of Alex Bowman, who supported Wallace.

At the end of the day, Wallace shouldn’t have let his anger get best out of him and should have confronted Bowman later about it. The HMS driver apologized for the mistake that ruined No:23 team’s race. It would be interesting to see how NASCAR would respond to the incident.
