The infamous actor-turned-NASCAR driver Frankie Muniz finished his rookie season in the Truck Series in the 2025 season. Muniz piloted the #33 Ford Challenger for Reaume Brothers Racing and was set for a massive challenge to perform well this year.

The 39-year-old rookie’s debut year was filled with difficult conditions, and he was unable to exceed the expectations laid on him. Despite his struggles this year, he opened up on the reasons behind his return to racing, especially after fathering a son.

Frankie Muniz‘s career in stock car racing began all the way back in 2023, as he participated in the ARCA Menards Series back then. Since then, Muniz made appearances in the Xfinity Series (soon to be renamed to NASCAR O’Reily Auto Parts Series), and ultimately debuted full-time in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2025. The Malcolm in the Middle star definitely had some glimpses of promising performances this year, but he still struggled a lot to emerge as a dominant force on track.

Frankie Muniz opened up on how the birth of his son made him rethink his life decisions and wonder what he wanted his son to look up to him as. He added that he wanted his son, Mauz Mosley Muniz, to watch his father work really hard for something. Muniz did exactly that and toiled hard in the stock car racing to earn his name on the grid, despite already being famous because of his acting career.

After becoming a father, Frankie Muniz reckoned that he knew he had to get back to racing in NASCAR full-time and prove his grit to not only the world, but mainly to his son. We have seen in the past that becoming a father for the first time has massive changes on a person, as even Bubba Wallace talked about the positive changes in his life. Now, Muniz will hope to carry forward a positive and winning mindset to the grid in 2026 and give it his all on the track.

The day my son was born I had this weird realization of like, who is my son going to grow up thinking that his dad is? That moment made me go like, man, I want him to grow up watching me working really, really hard for something or striving for something, a goal that isn’t easy. And that’s when I decided to go back racing, give NASCAR a shot.

Frankie Muniz reveals the ‘negatives’ of being a NASCAR driver

Being a NASCAR driver certainly has its side effects despite the massive glamor. Frankie Muniz noted that he was in his third year of racing in the stock car category and now realized that many negatives came with the glory. Muniz reckoned that he had to sacrifice family time just for the sake of practicing and participating in the races.

Still, he is confident in his capabilities to prioritize the right thing at the right time and find the perfect balance to be perfect everywhere. Hence, the 39-year-old will return to the Truck Series stronger than ever in 2026 and hopes to be a winning force from the get-go. For now, Muniz will have a lot of off-track time that he can spend with his family and cherish the moments before his son grows older and can talk proudly about his father.

I’m in my third full-time year, and I’m also realizing that there’s a lot of negative that comes along with it, too, right? It takes me away from my family, and trying to balance that. Put in the time as I need to as a driver, but also be a good husband and a good father. There’s definitely a balance there that I’m trying to figure out to be good everywhere.

Frankie Muniz noted.

Frankie Muniz will start afresh in the 2026 season and return to racing with a refreshed mindset. He has definitely proved his racing mettle on the grid after not giving up despite the circumstances. Now, Muniz just has to start scoring great results as a habit and keep striving for success.
