One of the GOAT’s of NASCAR will make a comeback to the Texas oval, but this time not in a stoke car though as he will be driving a Chip Ganassi Racing No. 48 Honda making his Indy 500 debut. A staggering 82 wins in ovals wasn’t enough in the past to allude him towards having a go at Indianapolis 500 as safety concerns from his family forced him to stay out.
But now the former NBC analyst who also races in MSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, driving the No. 48 Cadillac for Ally Cadillac Racing, has decided to call an end to his unofficial Indy 500 ban and will make his Indy car debut on one of the most iconic open wheel racing event and track.

To this he added saying that the regulars are so good at what they do and when anyone debuts into a new series it’s going to take time to settle into, he also added that he certainly has higher expectations for himself but doesn’t see himself qualifying or winning the race.
“Whenever you enter a new series, you’re with the regulars, they’re so good at what they do. We have seen it when drivers try to cross over from various series. I certainly have higher expectations for myself, but I’m not thinking I’m going to show up, qualify on pole, lead the most laps and win the race,” said Jimmie Johnson.
Jimmie Johnson says that he has a lot to learn following the changes to the track

Jimmie Johnson said that he has looked into every race to understand and will also have a couple of hours’ practice so he can head out with the best racing machine possible. The former NASCAR champion added that he feels that the Indy 500 is really special and he would like to make it the most beneficial for him by exploiting all the available time for practice.
“I’ve watched every video humanly possible. I’ll have to use the two hours of practice to maximize that, get a sense of it, so I can have the best racecraft possible heading into the event,” Jimmie Johnson said.
“Ultimately, I want to run every lap of the race, I’m so new into my IndyCar experience, starting all over on ovals, every lap is going to be a marked amount of experience gained. We’re trying to build up for the Indy 500. Everyone knows how special the Indy 500 is. It’s the second oval on the schedule. Every lap I make will be very beneficial,“ Jimmie Johnson added.
