The Daytona 500 is one of the biggest races in the history of motorsports. It is often considered as the fourth crown jewel event in the world, behind 24 Hours of Daytona, Monaco GP and Indy 500. Ex-NASCAR champions, who has never won the 500-mile race, has even claimed that they would sacrifice a title for the Superspeedway race win.
But the race seems to have lost the charm it once hard in the playoff era, according to senior NASCAR journalist Jeff Gluck, the 500 miles race doesn’t guarantee drivers legendary status as it once used to. He also highlighted that how the race victory is more about circumstances and chance, than luck as many deem to be.
He asserted that being the Daytona 500 champion is not legacy-maker as it used to be in the past and it doesn’t have upper hand on being a Cup champion. Gluck highlighted that the playoff format caused these situations.
Jeff Gluck named the best track for fans in the NASCAR Cup schedule
In the same podcast, Jeff Gluck named the best track for fans in the Cup series. He pointed out that for a NASCAR fans the Bristol night race is the best experience anyone could have and added that Daytona also offers great experience.
The points made by Gluck seems fair as the tunnels of Bristol Motor Speedway makes the whole race a great experience for everyone involved. The race experience at Bristol is something other tracks could learn from.
