NBA legend Michael Jordan ended NASCAR in 2021 with Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin as one of the co-owners and within four seasons his Toyota team 23XI Racing has become a solid championships contender. They won their first championship this year with Tyler Reddick bagging the regular season title.
The teams aren’t planning to stop yet as they already have a plan to field a third car full-time in the near future. Though some of these plans are in a tough spot at the moment due to 23XI’s stalemate with NASCAR over the new charter deal, they are going forward with the plan. Now senior NASCAR journalist Bob Pockrass has reported the potential drivers who could sign for the team.
He named Riley Herbst as a reasonable option for the team considering, the current SHR driver has Monster Energy as his primary sponsor just like 23XI. Corey Heim, who is the long-term prospect of the team, is another option. The Truck Series driver is already ready to make the step up, but the team wants to take is slow with him and to make sure they have a solid driver in the top-tier.
With the team already having a Monster Energy relationship, adding Riley Herbst and his Monster deal would make sense. But Herbst has indicated his future is still not set. Corey Heim is the team’s driver of the future. But he might be a year or two away from being fully Cup ready. Despite the charter drama, 23XI Racing has been hiring employees to fill a third car for next year.

Bob Pockrass also gave an update on Bubba Wallace’s contract extension
The 2024 season is set to mark the end of Bubba Wallace’s contract with 23XI Racing and the team hasn’t been able to sign an extension with their star driver. Then main reason it hasn’t happened yet is the teams fight with NASCAR on charter and it is expected that the contract will be assigned as soon as the issues will be solved.
Bubba Wallace isn't signed yet for next year but is expected to return. He indicated that the charter agreement between NASCAR and the teams (23XI Racing has not yet signed the deal) was the primary hurdle in announcing his extension.Bob Pockrass wrote.
Having Bubba Wallace in the team is important for the team, as he brings a lot of sponsorship potential and most often deliver at the track as well. It will be interesting to see how the contract situation goes with the team and the driver.
