Ahead of the 2025 NASCAR All-Star race weekend, the sanctioning body made some solid prepositions to the teams. One of them was allowing the teams to go wild on the cars, like in the past, removing any restrictions on the Next-Gen cars for the $1 million race. The teams decided refuse the deal siting financial issue.

The Cup teams would have had to spent more than the usual $300K for a single race and even if they win the event, they won’t be able to break even. The Athletics’ Jeff Gluck via The Teardown podcast went into one of the bets NASCAR rants of recent history, calling out the teams for crying about money and urges them to stop complaining to NASCAR.

Teams. I think you are a bunch of assholes, honestly. You are a bunch of assholes. Seriously. Stop crying about the freaking money. Will you stop it?
Will you listen to yourselves? All you do is complain, ‘they won’t let us do anything with this car.

Jeff Gluck said via The Teardown podcast.

He highlighted how the teams were asking for the liberty of making modification on the spec car since 2022, and how they are backing down when they are finally given the opportunity. Gluck got a point, as it is hypocritical from the teams back down from a deal, they themselves asked for.

Why won’t they let us do anything with the car? It’s a spec car, it’s a Temu car. I got this car at Target. I have to do everything that they want us to do, and they won’t let me do anything.

Jeff Gluck added.

Denny Hamlin gives his verdict on Jeff Gluck’s rant

23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin, responded to the rant on his own podcast and explained how much financial burden the move would have had on the team. He highlighted how the teams will be forced to sacrifice one of the only seven chassis they get from NASCAR for a one of event and how modifications combined will be costly for all the teams for a car they can never use again in the 2025 season.

If you continue to lose money year after year, why would you just raise your hand and say, ‘sure, I’ll take another $1 million loss.’ You can’t do that. It’s not sustainable. It’s not possible under the parameters set in front of us and that was that do whatever you want.

Denny Hamlin said.

The Joe Gibbs Racing veteran has some solid points as unless NSASCAR gives the teams some extra support it is sometimes it’s not right to bear extra cost. But at the same time the teams missed out on the big opportunity to prove their points about Next-Gen cars issue and how they can fix them, as the current cars have many issues that needs to fix for good.
