‘I’ve never had more confidence,’ Aric Almirola reveals he is more than ready for a first win of 2022 at Richmond
Aric Almirola
Aric Almirola, the Stewart-Haas Racing driver has been one of the consistent performers of 2022 second to only former Cup Series Champion, Hendrick Motorsport driver Chase Elliott, who tops the championship table. Though 2021 for him was disappointing the Next-Gen cars have allowed him to fight with his skills more than fighting to bridge the speed gap in 2022.
The Cuban American will hit the Virginia tracks Richmond and Martinsville up next with his Cup Series compatriots a track on which he and his team has been historically productive. Now the No:10 driver has come forth suggesting that his team has a genuine shot at winning a race in either of the upcoming two tracks with the Next-Gen car.

Aric Almirola said he is high on confidence for Richmond as the track has been historically good for them and added he is looking forward to a great run there with the Next-Gen car, which he believes has brought the field closer. He went on to add that his all-team is confident for Richmond as he is in a great position in terms of car’s performance and championship points going into one of his favorite tracks.
“With the way things are going, I’ve never had more confidence. This new car levels the playing field and puts it on the drivers to perform. We always run well at Richmond and Martinsville, even when we don’t have the best setup, so I’m really looking forward to it,” Aric Almirola said.
“Unlike last year, we’re in the position of a great point, and we get to qualify so we’re not backed into points hold and can race without as much pressure as we did last year. When I got out of the car on Sunday at COTA, Drew [Blickensderfer, crew chief] said, ‘Next weekend is going to be a good one,’ so the whole team is confident heading into the weekend,” Aric Almirola added.
“We race for one more spot until the checkered flag,” Aric Almirola on how his team remains consistent in 2022
Aric Almirola acknowledged that giving up is not an option for the No:10 team and the team has been successful in channeling the adversities to front raw finishes which reflects on their championship points. He went on to express his hope that the team will get its win soon this season by pointing out their Austin heroics where he finished in the Top 20 after falling to 34th position following a cut tire and 2 pitting.
“The main thing is that this 10 team does not give up. Every race this season has had its ups and downs and we have made the most out of the day we are given. We’re the only team in the series right now that has stayed on the lead lap, and it shows,” says Aric Almirola.
“Last weekend, we cut a tire and went back to 34th with six laps to go – then we had another tire issue. We pitted twice from 34th and still ended up with a top 20. No matter the circumstances, we race for one more spot until the checkered flag is waved, and I think our position is the points that have shown that. Our time will come,” Aric Almirola added.
