The stage is set for the championship finale at Phoenix, and all four drivers have clinched their spot in the Championship-4. William Byron achieved a stellar win at Martinsville and locked in his spot. Moreover, Kyle Larson made the cut following his point cushion in the standings.

Meanwhile, JGR drivers Denny Hamlin and Chase Briscoe won races during the Round of 8 and were already in the mix for Phoenix. Now, ex-NASCAR star Jeff Gordon has predicted the upcoming battle for the title at Phoenix.

Notably, Kyle Larson is the only former champion who is entering the Championship-4 to fight for the title win in 2025. Apart from him, Denny Hamlin enters the Phoenix race as the season’s winningest driver.

William Byron, who already won the regular cup season championship, is poised for a stellar championship win if he manages to bring home the win in Phoenix. Chase Briscoe, who debuted with JGR this season, will hope to win the title in his very first season with the team.

All four drivers in the Championship-4 are certainly the best of the rest and have proved their racing mettle to deserve their spot in the Round of 4. All drivers have everthing to gain if they win the title battle at Phoenix, and everything to lose if they do not emerge victorious. For now, no driver seems to have a clear cut advantage as anyone can bring home the victory and ultimately the coveted Cup Series title.

As such, Jeff Gordon, who has won four titles in the Winston Cup Era, certainly knows what it takes to achieve the ultimate goal of any NASCAR driver. Gordon predicted that there would be an epic battle between the top four drivers for the championship finale fight.

Even the 54-year-old reckoned that the race was anybody’s to win and no one was having a clear advantage ahead of the race. Qualifying will be crucial in the race and it would be extremely interesting to witness which driver manages to win the title.

It’s going to be an epic battle, This is anybody’s race.

Jeff Gordon labels William Byron’s Martinsville victory as ‘race of his career’

William Byron took the pole position for the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville and left no stone unturned to convert his pole position into race win. Byron managed to lead over 304 laps out of 500 total, highest of his career. In the final stages of the race, the Hendrick Motorsport star made a daring move against Ryan Blaney and clinched the race win from him, helping him lock the final spot in the playoffs for the Championship-4.

As such, Jeff Gordon was utterly impressed by William Byron’s showing and praised the race winner. Gordon insisted that as per him, Byron had the race of his career at Martinsville.

The ex-NASCAR star accepted that the race win didn’t come at Daytona 500, but still his approach to the race was unbelievable. The 54-year-old also praised the Hendrick driver’s unbelievable performance during the restart and late race move to bring home the race win.

To me, William, I believe, had the race of his career today, I know it wasn’t a Daytona 500, but to me, the way he handled himself and the way he approached it and raced today was just unbelievable. And that last restart I would put right in there with that. I mean, he nailed that restart! Not only did he get the jump when in the restart area but then he drove that thing deep down into [Turn] 1, went up wide, turned it, and drove off and cleared the 12.

Jeff Gordon told John Newby of Savage Ventures.

The 2025 season has been extremely exciting so far, more so with no Penske drivers in the Championship-4 for the first time in a very long time. The fans will definitely have a hard time picking their favorite to win the title, as all of them are equally adored. Now, time will tell about which driver wants the championship win more and puts everything on the line for a championship win.
