Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman has been one of the drivers under the most pressure in the Next-Gen, as he often gets outperformed by his teammates despite having string cars. Having just one multi-win season in his whole Cup career at HMS and never establishing himself as a clear championship favorite, has often made some fans call for replacing him.

Coming into this Sunday’s Straight Talk Wireless 400 at Homestead Miami, Alex Bowman had the best opportunity he had in a long-time to secure a race win. He started on the pole and was able to fend of the challenges from teammate Kyle Larson, Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney and 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace.

But he couldn’t keep the car upfront for a long and lost to his teammate Kyle Larson, after hitting the wall, finishing the race P2, chocking up the chance. But despite the disappointment, Hendrick Motorsports is completely behind him. Ex-champion and the team Vice Chairman Jeff Gordon declared that Bowman is still their guy.

This is our guy… We’re happy to see [the 48] doing well.

Jeff Gordon told ESPN’s Kelly Crandall.

The comments from Gordon shows, he is happy about seeing an HMS car in the victory lane first time after the season opener, Daytona 500. No:48 car performance has also given him hope about Bowman getting back to victory lane soon.

Alex Bowman shared his feelings about the race result

In his post-race interview Alex Bowman was visibly frustrated as he missed out on a good shot at winning the race. He admitted that he choked the opportunity to win, after hitting the wall that caused significant damages to his car, while trying to defend the overtake from the No:5 Chevy of Larson.

I guess I choked that one away for sure. Just kind of burned my stuff up. Saw (Larson) coming, so I moved around a little bit. Not when he passed me, but the time before that I hit (the wall) with the right front and just bent something enough that I lost a lot of right front feel, and then I pulled it off the wall too far and ended up hitting the fence pretty bad.

Alex Bowman told NBC.

He admitted that he hates to lose as his team and boss Rick Hendrick deserve better than average results every other week. Bowman congratulated Larson on the win and admitted that his crew will have another shot at victory soon.

So, man, I hate that for this group. they deserve better than that. Just a couple of mistakes there. I felt like we were OK all day. That last run was probably the best we were but hats off to (this team). I hate it for (Rick) Hendrick. Congrats to Kyle and we’ll try to get another win this week.

Alex Bowman added.

The comment from the racer shows he isn’t willing to give up and determined to prove that he deserves his seat with the most dominant team in the sport history. It will be interesting to see how the No:48 car will run in the reaming races of the season, now with a positive momentum on their side.
