Hendrick Motorsports has yet again had a day of mixed emotions at a Superspeedway as the 2025 Daytona 500. Their young sensation William Byron won back-to-back crown jewel race, while their veteran champion Kyle Larson had another disappointing event. In the words of the No:5 Chevy drivers’ son Owen, Larson isn’t ‘good at superspeedways.’

Despite racing in the Cup series for nearly one and half decade, Kyle Larson hasn’t finished better than P7 at Daytona 500 and on last Sunday he secured a P20. Jeff Gordon, the Vice Chairman of HMS, shared his feelings about his drivers’ poor streak and revealed that the challenges is getting in the head of his most talented racer.

Gosh, the guy is not perfect. I think now I’m starting to see it’s getting in his head. I’ve had a few conversations with him, and like, ‘Man, just go for it, just forget about it, don’t try to even overthink it.’

Jeff Gordon told Jenna Fryer of The Associated Press.

The three times Daytona 500 winner doesn’t know what to say to Larson and the only advice he gave the veteran before the race was to be himself. The Hall of Famer is confident that one day, the star man would secure a race win in the iconic event.

I don’t know what advice to give him other than — all I told him today is ‘Just be Kyle Larson. Don’t try to be something you’re not. Don’t look at what somebody else is doing that’s having success. Just go out there and execute, and the other things will turn around and come your way eventually.’

Kyle Larson insists he isn’t losing sleep over lack of Daytona 500 win

At the same time, Kyle Larson isn’t ready to admit he is too disappointed with the lack of superspeedway win and has asserted that he is not losing sleep over it. He is taking inspiration from Tony Stewart, who has never won the Daytona 500 but has won everything else.

Like, I’m not going to lose sleep if I don’t ever win this race, but I still want to win the race and have that ring and that trophy and be a part of the names that have won it. But again, I think there’s a lot else, a lot more that goes into winning and a lot of luck. It’s not a big deal.

Kyle Larson said.

The comments from Kyle Larson, before the race, showed he had doubts about his chances of winning races at Daytona. The whole HMS team has work with the No:5 team and help their star man get over the factor that is holding him back winning the title.
