Over the years NASCAR has featured in many Hollywood movies or series, but none has had the mainstream impact as the Tom Cruise’s Days of Thunder had. Released in 1990, the movie featured real NASCAR races, as well as drivers, and went on collect $158 million in the box office, earning them over 98 million in revenue.
Recently there has been talks about Tom Cruise showing interest in producing a sequel to the story, after 35 years, with the team from the mega hit movie “Top Gun.” When the movie initially came out the NASCAR community criticized it for its exaggeration and overindulgence. But as it now became a cult classic, everyone wants to see the sequel. Now Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon has revealed that he has directly talked with Cruise offering his support.
I’ve absolutely talked to Tom about it because I want him to do the project. We want to be a part of it if it were to happen.
Jeff Gordon said via AP.
The four times Cup series champion pointed out that even the sequel doesn’t happen, there is a chance that some cool project is on the way that will get NASCAR back on the big screen. It can be docu-series or something much bigger.
He seems to like to tease it, so I don’t know. We’ll see what happens. If that doesn’t happen, I feel pretty confident there’s a project out there that will get NASCAR back on the big screen, if not just a really cool docuseries or something beyond even what we’re already seeing right now.

Jeff Gordon admits getting the authenticity of NASCAR correct will be tough
The HMS legend recalled how Days of Thunder was filmed by mounting big cameras on the car. He then highlighted how it will be easy nowadays to film, as the Cameras are small. But the real challenge will be to keep the racing authentic.

Hard to imagine how you pull that off today because they actually had race cars with cameras in the race, and the cameras were big. Cameras have gotten a lot smaller so maybe you could pull it off, but how do you do it and make it realistic and really authentic?
Jeff Gordon said.
The comment from Gordon shows though he is excited about NASCAR coming back to the big screen, he has some concerns as well. It would be interesting to see if NASCAR going get involved and make the “Days of Thunder” sequel possible.
