The 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season marked one of the best years of Hendrick Motorsports in the Next-Gen era. Kyle Larson won the championship finishing the year as the points leader, while William Byron and Chase Elliott had multi-win season, with the No:24 Chevy team making it into the finale alongside the No:5 Chevy.
The leadership of owner Rick Hendrick and Vice Chairman Jeff Gordon has played a major role in the success. Recently talking about the team’s future, four times champion Gordon pointed out that the Kyle Larson title win is a major upgrade for the team and that excites him about the future ahead for the team in the era.
When you’ve done what we’ve done with our car and our teams and one of those things is winning a lot of races and winning a championship, I get really excited when I think we’ve got something that’s an upgrade. I don’t want to get too caught up in that because sometimes, it takes time to fine tune that change.
Jeff Gordon said via hendrickmotorsports.com.
The champion driver asserted that one of the major issues that has been holding the team back in the Next-Gen era as been the aero dynamic. Gordon believes they were not on same level as their rivals in this regard, despite consistently winning races. This gives him more confidence about HMS’ future.
I do think we’ve been a bit behind when you look at aerodynamics – our car versus some of our competitors. I feel like we’ve gotten ourselves on a level playing field with them, so I’m very excited about that.
Jeff Gordon added.
Talking about the overall atmosphere in the team, the Hall of Famer pointed out that the team is a solid place at the moment, and the new partnerships will give them advantage in the 2026 season onwards. Their new sinning Corey Day, who is talented enough to be the next Kyle Larson is also a massive win for the team.
I think our campus and our organization is in a really good place. The things we’ve been able to accomplish and celebrate – our 40th anniversary (in 2024), a really good year this year and take out the championship, three of our four teams winning multiple times, new partnerships, adding Corey Day full time (in the NASCAR O’Reilly Series) – to me, a lot of things feel good. Just the energy here.
Jeff Gordon asserted.
Jeff Gordon sees the HMS VC role as incredibly rewarding
In the same conversation earlier, the Hendrick Motorsports champion pointed out that being the leader at HMS has been really rewarding for him. Every year he is getting more and more connected with the team. He is now enjoying the wins and championship just like he used to in his racing days.

It’s incredibly rewarding. There’s no doubt every year that goes by that I’m in this role I get more connected with the people and the teams on this level to really enjoy the success and the championship almost as much as when I was driving.
Jeff Gordon said.
The comments from the Hendrick Motorsports driver shows the passion he has for the team and why Rick Hendrick sees him as his potential successor at HMS. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the team in the coming years.
