The NASCAR community was hit by the second insider death of the week. Truck Series championship winning teammate Shigeaki Hattori died in an accident recently and now Hendrick Motorsports has lost one of the senior official. Jon Edwards, the director of racing communications at HMS, died to the disbelief of majority of the racing community.

Jon Edwards has been at Hendrick Motorsports for over 30 years has played an important role in the team’s dominance over the years. The teams Vice Chairman Jeff Gordon, who won four Cup titles with Edwards by his side, shared his feelings about the sudden death and admitted that he is devastated.

I’m devastated by the loss of my dear friend, Jon. For almost three decades, we were side by side through every high and low, every celebration, and every challenge.

Jeff Gordon wrote on X.

Further discussing on the point, Gordon asserted that Edwards was one of the most loyal, hardworking and selfless teammates he had at HMS. He had massive impact on Gordon’s career and life. This makes Edwards one of the kind friend the retired racer has had at the team and shared his prayers to the HMS senior’s family.

He was one of the most loyal, hardworking and selfless people I’ve ever known, and I will be forever grateful for his immeasurable impact on my life and my career. My heart is with Jon’s family and everyone who loved him. He was truly one of a kind.

Hendrick Motorsports shares his thoughts on Jon Edwards’ death

The team shared their thoughts on losing one of their longest associates as well. They announced the news via a statement, shared their profound sadness about the death of Edwards who was a consummate professional with remarkable skills that helped him to earn respect of his peers.

It is with profound sadness that we confirm the passing of Jon Edwards, our longtime friend, teammate and director of racing communications. Jon was a consummate professional whose remarkable gift for building strong and lasting relationships made him a respected figure in our sport.

Hendrick Motorsports said via a statement.

They pointed out that Edwards had an impact on the sport that only few of his professional counter parts had over the years and the relationship he built in the garage owing to his genuine persona is unique. The whole HMS crew offered their thoughts and prayers for the teammate’s family.

His Impact on Hendrick Motorsports, the NASCAR community and countless individuals cannot be overstated. Above all, Jon was a kind and thoughtful person who carried a genuine passion for our industry, our organization and his many teammates and friends. Our thoughts are with Jon’s family and all who are grieving this tremendous loss. He will be deeply missed.
