Kyle Larson yet again proved why he is considered one of the most versatile racer car drivers in the world, with his third win at the Super Bowl of Midget car racing, Chilly Bowl Nationals. He is now the joint most successful drivers in the events history, alongside his Cup rival Christopher Bell, who also has three Golden Drillers.
The No:5 Hendrick Motorsports Cup racers win came, with the Vice-Chairman of his team Jeff Gordon in the attendance. The four times Cup champion was the grand marshal of the event, for the second time of his career. But his appearance wasn’t just about the marshal duty and seeing his racer succeed.
He was there looking to scout new talents for the team. In an interview with Flo Racing, he admitted that he came in not only as a fan, but also as a representative of Hendrick Motorsports looking to find the new Kyle Larson or the new Tony Stewart, from the prodgies that started the race at Chilly Bowl Nationals.
Jeff Gordon explains the plans for the potential prodigies
In the same conversation, Jeff Gordon pointed out that team is looking to find racing prodigies they can sign on development delas on both from dirt racing events as well as asphalt events. He pointed out that if they can find them at the right young age, they can be groomed to become top talents for HMS in the future.
The comments from Jeff Gordon shows how much the team are investing on their future with, few potential openings for changes in their driver’s line-up. It will be interesting to see if HMS can find the right prodigy that can once replace Kyle Larson, when the time comes.
