Seven times Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson hasn’t been the same since he made his return to NASCAR as a co-owner and part-time driver at Legacy Motor Club. This weekend’s Texas Motor Speedway Cup race was no different for the veteran as he spun himself out on the early in the race.
The bump between turn three and four at TMS has always been a huge challenge for the drivers and Jimmie Johnson fell victim to it. His No:84 Toyota Camry spun out before even coming to the corner. Fortunately, he was able pull of an impressive save and take back the control of his car, avoiding the inside and outside walls. He ended the disappointing Day at P29.

Most factors were against the champion driver coming into the weekend. It was his first race at Texas in the Toyota Next-Gen car and he had a start at P36 in the race. This was because of a practice crash that caused significant damage to car and deprived him of the opportunity to run a single qualifying lap on the Saturday.
It was only his second race of the 2024 season, with the first one being a disappointing outing at Daytona 500. While Johnson struggled on Sunday, his teammate Erik Jones showed some character and secured a top-20 finish. While their other teammate John Hunter Nemechek DNFed due to a early race crash.
Here is how fans on X reacted to Jimmie Johnson’s incident
Fans on social media had a mixed set of reaction to Johnson’s spin and poor streak of performance. Some fans are pretty hurt by his poor set of results and has sympathized with him over the streak. While some defended him saying it’s the lack of understanding of Next-Gen cars in the reason for the drop.

There were also a group of fans who are furious with the ex-HMS driver for ruining his legacy by making a comeback and pulling of back-to-back disappointing runs. They pointed out that he should stop hurting himself and his fans, by retiring from racing in the top-tier if the poor runs are to continue. There were some fans who made the cheating comments with ill-intention.

Makes me sad to see this. Different car set-up and manufacturer definitely not for him. ??

I need to start putting money on Jimmie doing this so that my pain can be properly compensated for, or I need another wall to punch

When I look up washed in the dictionary. I see the definition of the word washed, which is what Jimmie Johnson is

People Need To Stop Judging Him Just Because He Spun Out, He’s Not Used To The Next Gen Cup Car So He’s InExperienced And Not Washed, He’s A 7 Time Champion And Has 83 Cup Wins And No One Can Take That Away From Him

Jokes and poor criticism aside, Johson has to look into how his latest stint with Legacy Motor Club is unravelling for him. Fans can’t be blamed for saying he is ruining his legacy with the disappointing run, the champion has to announce to the NASCAR nation by doing what he does best, race fast.
