Since seven times NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson became an owner-driver with Maury Gallagher. Legacy Motor Club has gone through some significant changes. From the massive rebranding to the teams to ditching Chevy to join Toyota Racing Development, has made the team an entirely different entity.
Though joining Toyota hasn’t given them any instant success, Jimmie Johnson hasn’t stopped investing more into the ventures. Recently they have made a new signing in Brian Campe, a veteran race strategist and engineer. He was poached from the Johnson’s former team and championship front runners, Hendrick Motorsports. The Hall of Famer sees Campe as a great asset for LMC.
Campe came into NASCAR with Dale Earnhardt Inc. and since then worked for teams like Hendrick Motorsports, JR Motorsports and had a stint in the IndyCar with Team Penske racing. His most recent major project was Kyle Larson’s Indy 500-Coke 600 double duty. His championship experience would help the LMC to thrive for more in the sport.
LMC sees the new hiring as world class
The CEO of the team, Cal Wells III, in the press release explained how big the hire is, deeming the veteran as part of the teams’ world class signings. He believes with the new hiring, the team can get back to its glory days with Richard Petty and Lee Petty, to once again establish themselves as the elite of the sport.
LMC seems to be more focused on future signing with the latest hiring and as they gain more respect in the TRD garage, they are going to enjoy the fruits of it. It will be interesting to see how the team will change with the new hiring.
