Motorsports is one of the riskiest sports in the world, as the athletes are putting their life on the line during the high-speed clashes. This puts a lot of pressure on the shoulders of not only the racers, but their family members as well. Recently seven times Cup champion Jimmie Johnson recalled a similar moment involving his wife, Chandra Johnson.

Jimmie Johnson moves to IndyCar series after Cup retirement, and his wife wasn’t happy about the oval racing in the open wheel racing series. He was focused on not letting his wife see his oval IndyCar tests. But the first time she saw him race in such a track; things went south for the Legacy MC co-owner.

It was a long slow process but she eventually is like, ‘look if this is what you want to do and you’re going to fully commit to it then you have my support.’ I was very smart though and I wouldn’t let her come to any of the oval test sessions. The first time she saw a car go around or me in an Indy car going around was at Texas.

His car spun out on the opening lap, while driving at the speed of 230 – 240 mph and Johnson’s wife lost it. She turned around and ran away from the grandstands seeing the incidents, clearly scared about the whole event.

I guess on the opening lap obviously I was in the car and couldn’t see it but some of my friends said she turned around and ran from the grandstands because we went by it like 230 – 240 [mph] on the opening lap and she’s like I can’t watch this and ran.

Jimmie Johnson gives hilarious narrative about convincing his wife to let him race at Indy

In the same conversation earlier, Jimmie Johnson explained he had produced his best salesman job to convince her to race in IndyCar. This was because of the huge crash he has had at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

At Indy I had a pretty good shunt at the end of the race and that’s the speed you’re running there, it is a risk and ultimately, I did my best salesman job ever to convince my wife to let me go IndyCar racing.

The comment from Johnson shows the love and care Chandra shows for the NASCAR legend. The veteran always taking his wife emotions as a factor while taking decisions on his racing career also shows his strong love for her.
