The NASCAR Cup garage witnessed a special and emotional moment on the chaotic Bristol race day. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Ty Gibbs produced a clinical performance to secure his maiden in the elite division outracing Kyle Larson and holding off Ryan Blaney to win with a 0.055 second margin.

The Hall of Fame team owner of JGR, Joe Gibbs was a proud grandfather after the win and shared his emotional thoughts about it post-race. He called it one of the bets experiences of his life alongside Denny Hamlin’s winning a race in honor of his late son JD Gibbs, Ty’s uncle. It’s also more emotional for the veteran as his other son Coy Gibbs, the No:54 Toyota driver’s father, wasn’t there to watch the milestone moment.

This is one of my best experiences. Obviously when Denny (Hamlin) won, honoring J.D. (Gibbs)‘ life, was such a huge deal. But I think about Coy (Gibbs), he brought Ty up the entire time. Just wish, I know he’s probably watching and so I just want to thank so many people. It starts with God. He’s blessed us and our family and just really, really can’t say enough about

Joe Gibbs said after the race.

While the HOF speaking, Ty Gibbs quickly came over and started talking about how his grandfather was one of the most hardworking men he has ever seen and how he played a key role behind JGR’s success. Joe Gibbs and daughter in law (Ty’s mom) Heather Gibbs are of the most hardworking and key officials behind the triumph.

This is the man right here. I’ve never seen somebody work so hard in my life. Him and my mom. I come in the shop at 6 a.m. or 7 p.m., when everybody’s there, they’re not there. They’re always there. They work their asses off. I really appreciate it. This is a great role model. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him.

Ty Gibbs is determined to work hard after maiden triumph

On his media session, after the race Ty Gibbs declared that the win is not going to change anything for him in the coming events. He knew the win was coming, as the team and himself were always capable of delivering.

One win doesn’t change my career not one bit. I knew I was capable of it. My team, obviously I know they’re capable of it so yeah, doesn’t mean anything. I could win the next five or just win this one and be done for a long time. It doesn’t mean anything.

Ty Gibbs said.

The failure to deliver as he used to do in his dominant lower division years were the main thing that held Ty Gibbs back over the years. On Sunday at Bristol, he was finally able to deliver results and that has made determined to work harder to visit victory lane more often.

I feel like I knew I was capable of doing it. It’s obviously about putting it together. We’ve had great runs in the past. People are going to hammer me on my position I’m in. That’s fair. I don’t really care. Just keep working hard. I really love racing, so it’s fun.

Ty Gibbs added.

The comments from the young racer are on point, and shows how much the lack of proper execution has been holding them back. It would be interesting to see how the reminder of the 2026 season is going to playout for them.
