The NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday at New Hampshire featured some wild moments and wrecks. It was the clash between Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Denny Hamlin and Ty Gibbs that caused the most raised eye brows. The incident turned out to be costly for young Gibbs, who has been desperately looking for a race win in the top tier for over three years.
A frustrated Denny Hamlin dumped Ty Gibbs during the Mobil 1 301, after the No:54 Toyota driver refused to give him enough space to him as well as Christopher Bell, considering the duo was fighting for the championship. Team owner Joe Gibbs talked about his grandson’s antics and asserted that it’s up to the drivers to settle the beef.
It’s always the drivers that have to handle that. They’re the ones that have got the wheel, and that’s always the case. So that’s what we’ll do. Those guys all are the ones driving the cars, and so those guys will get together on their own and figure it out.
Joe Gibbs said via Fox Sports.
The No:11 Toyota Camry driver Hamlin also shared his thoughts on the situation and how the issue between them can be settled. He wants the upper management to get involved to settle the beef between him and Gibbs, who is a co-owner of the team. Hamlin expects them to figure out a formal to make it happen soon.
The 54 got back clear of me and the 20, and we ran him right back down, and then just couldn’t get any space to race once we were trying to pass. I don’t know what the whole formula is, but I’m sure Joe and those guys will figure it out.
Denny Hamlin highlighted.
So, how the whole drama should be settles? Well ex- crew chief Steve Letarte got the perfect answers. Talking about it, he declared that as the Cup team owner has to get involved and that is the simple fix for the beef. The only opinion that matters at the moment is that of NFL Hall of Famer coach Joe Gibbs.
I think it really comes down to the owner. I think coach has to decide. I think it’s as simple as that. We can talk about Denny Hamlin, we can talk about Ty Gibbs, Jeff and I can give our opinions. Our opinions don’t matter. The opinion that matters is the man who has his name on the building, it’s as simple as that.
Steve Letarte asserted.
JGR competition director shares his thoughts on the Denny Hamlin-Ty Gibbs beef
Talking to the media after the race, Chris Gabehart the former crew chief of Denny Hamlin who serves as the competition director of JGR, and as well as a special role in the No:54 team shared his thoughts on the drama. He highlighted that need of having a conversation with in the team regarding how to race in the playoffs.

He pointed out that there’s a reasonable etiquette that is expected from the Joe Gibbs Racing drivers when the race for championship and everyone in the team needs to follow it. But he also admitted that there should be a limit to how the team control the duel among teammates, as letting them race is important for success.
I think there’s a reasonable etiquette to follow to where everybody can get what they need out of it. But, you know, at the same time, you can’t create an atmosphere where everybody just has to roll over and play nice all the time either, or you won’t hang as many banners as Joe Gibbs Racing has hung over the years.
Chris Gabehart said.
Joe Gibbs has to step up and sort the situation, to make sure the Toyota giants are focussed on winning their first title since the 2019 season. This shouldn’t be the distraction that sabotages their title chances as well as Ty Gibbs’ hopes of securing his maiden Cup series win, ending the three-year winless streak.
