2017 NASCAR Cup Series champion Martin Truex Jr. at Iowa confirmed the reports that he will end his full-time racing career at the end of the 2024 season. The announcement was made by the No:19 Toyota Camry driver and JGR boss Joe Gibbs in a special press conference held ahead of the race at corn-country.
Marttin Truex Jr. joined Joe Gibbs Racing in 2019 after a successful stint with Furniture Row Racing. Since joining the TRD giants, he has won 15 Cup races with the team and finished P2 in the championship thrice in this time period. Other than a disappointing run in 2022, he has made it to the playoff and R-8 comfortably in his time with JGR.

Joe Gibbs gives his verdict on the timing of Martin Truex Jr. announcement
During the press-conference, Joe Gibbs was asked whether he feels it was the right time for Martin Truex Jr. to slow down. Coach asserted that it isn’t his call to be made and confirmed that unlike the previous years, he knew his driver was ready for retirement when they have had discussions about it.
It was always up to Martin (Truex Jr.). We talked over the years as Martin I think thought about things and I think it was just different this year. I could kind of tell when I called him to get the final result, he was totally relaxed and so I could read that in him. Yeah, we’re excited about going forward. I think now he’s going to have a lot of opportunities and some with us.Joe Gibbs said.
The NFL Hall of Famer has the responsibility of finding the best replacement for the veteran driver and will be working hard to get the best option available. SHR’s Chase Briscoe who would be a free agent in 2025 is most rumored option.
