The Next-Gen Cars have remained a massive point of discussion in NASCAR in recent years. Though the sport firmly believes that these stock cars are improving racing, many drivers feel differently. NASCAR introduced the Next-Gen cars in 2022, and they have received mixed opinions since then. Now, the sport’s Executive Vice President, John Probst, has talked in favor of the current generation of cars.
Among many other drivers, Kyle Busch remained a strong critic of the Next-Gen car. Though NASCAR executives believed that the current generation produced the best possible racing on track, the likes of Denny Hamlin did not sit right with this claim. Despite the massive back and forth on the status quo, John Probst has remained confident in his beliefs about the Next-Gen cars.
Speaking on the Next-Gen regulations for the stock challengers, John Probst revealed that the sport’s ambition was to get the business model right for the teams. Probst noted that NASCAR also wanted to attract more teams and manufacturers to the pinnacle of stock racing and make racing more enjoyable for the fans and drivers.
Despite the massive argument, John Probst recalled the past four years of NASCAR’s Next-Gen era and how successful they were. Probst questioned how the teams and drivers fared under the new generation. He boldly insisted that the new regulations had been an overwhelming success for the pinnacle of stock racing.
We needed to make sure that we were getting the business model right for the race teams that were with us now and the race teams that we wanted to attract. And I think that when you step back and say, okay, four years into this, how are we doing? I would say that, you know, we’d say it’s an overwhelming success.

John Probst accepts NASCAR will always be “a work in progress”
NASCAR has continued to evolve massively in recent years in terms of car regulations and safe racing. The cars are increasing in safety and making racing closer between the leaders of the pack. Denny Hamlin’s 23XI Racing is one of the best examples of teams that have started to perform much better with the Next-Gen regulations. John Probst accepted that NASCAR hadn’t perfected the regulations yet and that they would continue to evolve.

John Probst asserted that the cars would always be a work in progress, which was the responsibility of the people working in the background. The VP credited Dr. John Padillac, Brandon Thomas, and others who were constantly working to make the car better and more enjoyable for the drivers. For now, the sport has refused to bring in massive changes to the regulations and hopes for everything to work out for the better.
The cars will always be a work in progress, and that’s the work in the back here, of Dr. John Padillac and Brandon Thomas, and Eric Jacuzzi, and his group, constantly working to make the car better.
