The Joe Gibbs Racing vs Chris Gabehart lawsuit has grabbed the attention of a majority of the NASCAR community. Many people are closely watching the legal battle, as Gabehart tries to clear his name of the allegations. Now, a Judge has issued a limited ruling on the team’s request for a restraining order against the outgoing personnel’s new role with Spire Motorsports.

Following his exit from Joe Gibbs Racing, Chris Gabehart immediately locked in a new role at Spire Motorsports as the Chief Motorsports Officer. Meanwhile, JGR believed that Gabehart was revealing the team’s trade secrets to his new team. As such, a legal lawsuit was filed against the 44-year-old, as multiple rulings kept coming one after the other.

Now, the court has issued a new ruling in response to JGR’s demands to disallow Chris Gabehart to perform his duties at Spire Motorsports, atleast until the case is resolved. Judge Susan C. Rodriguez has ruled in favor of JGR and has restricted Gabehart from performing duties that overlap with his previous responsibilities at Joe Gibbs Racing. Notably, the 44-year-old was the Competition Director in the previous team, and hence, he couldn’t perform those duties for the time being.

However, the ruling hasn’t disallowed Chris Gabehart from continuing to work with Spire Motorsports, like Joe Gibbs Racing wanted. She added that all other duties of the Chief Motorsport Officer were “fair game,” and were not breaking any laws. Despite the latest bombshell ruling, the case is far from over, and the final verdict might not come anytime soon.

Certainly, JGR believes that not only the team, but all the employees and their partners are being exploited because of Chris Gabehart leaking the trade secrets. For now, the court will further look into the matter and decide in the best interest of all parties involved.

We are pleased with today’s ruling by the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina for a temporary restraining order enforcing the terms of our contract with Chris Gabehart, We will continue the legal process to protect our information and fight for what is right for our race team, our employees, and our partners.

The current situation isn’t looking good for Chris Gabehart, as the balance does not seem to be in his favor. Despite Gabehart’s actions, the court will have to look at the case extensively. The final decision hasn’t come yet, and it will take some time to sort out the problems. For now, JGR’s focus must remain on the 2026 season and achieving much better results than their current ones.
