The Earnhardt’s are one of the most iconic family in the history of NASCAR. Recently via the Dale Jr. Download podcast, Kerry Earnhardt the oldest son of Dale Sr. sat down with his half brother and Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. to talked about their dad alongside the family legacy in the sport. During the discussion the ex-racer revealed the punctuality issue his young brother had in his early days.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. worked at his father’s Chevy dealership at North Carolina, after high school as a mechanic for two years before becoming a pro-racer. Kerry revealed that in the initial years Junior was bit late turning up for the work and one day the service manager Bill Kitchens confronted him owing to his actions.

He’d come in to work, and old Bill Kitchens was the service manager. And Jr. (Dale Earnhardt Jr.) comes walking in, and Bill says, Dale, come here; I need to talk to you. I don’t remember what y’all’s discussion was, but I remember he said, come over here; let me show you something.

While further talking about the point, he pointed out that Kitchens gave junior a mouthful and almost fired him. But he didn’t do it though as at the end of the day it was his boss’s son and there si so much he could do.

He grabs him, with an arm around his shoulder, and walks out. See that sign right there? That’s about two letters from getting your ass fired. Remember that? I think that’s when he was firing you.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. refutes claims of always being late

Before Kerry recalled the incident, he reminded junior that he almost came in at noon. The two times Xfinity series champion quickly become defensive and asserted that he was late just 15 or 20 minutes, even that wasn’t occurring often.

Horse S***, I would be 15 minutes late! 15-20 minutes late! Man, one or two days maybe I came in that late, but not like, I wasn’t doing that every day. Dude, they would have fired the hell out of me.

Changing this attitude played significant role in the success and the legacy he has left in the sport. He worked hard and fight to earn everything he has won over the years. He still has a lot to offer for the sports as a team owner, as well as a broadcaster.
