NASCAR star Ross Chastain races for Trackhouse Racing in the Cup Series. Recently, his performance seemed to have declined with critics being disappointed with his results. NASCAR legend Kevin Harvick is one such expert who raised concerns over the Trackhouse Racing driver’s current campaign.
On his Happy Hour podcast, Harvick outlined the entire campaign of Chastain. The 49-year-old pinpointed that the Trackhouse Racing pit crew was doing a solid job, being ranked 16th in the field. However, Kevin Harvick reckoned that qualifying was an issue for the team.
You look at the Chastain pit crew, they’re ranked 16th. So, they’ve been doing a decent job on pit road, but they have not been doing a decent job in qualifying.
Kevin Harvick said on the Happy Hour podcast.
After the race at the Texas Motor Speedway, Ross Chastian‘s behavior was different than how he usually is. The 32-year-old was unhappy with the way his car felt on track, which was a rarity according to Kevin Harvick. This has been a reality check for Trackhouse Racing’s qualifying runs this season.
This was the first time I’ve ever heard Ross Chastain get out of that race car and voice his displeasure with the way that the cars felt. His interview afterwards was different than it has been ever before, with always being positive about everything that’s going on. The reality has showed up, and that is they struggle on qualifying day.
Kevin Harvick explained.
Poor qualifying runs have made things more difficult for Chastain. Harvick reckoned that this was putting more pressure on his shoulders who had to recover places in the race. Nevertheless, the NASCAR legend insisted that Trackhouse Racing was grinder harder than anybody in the field.
So right now, I think after that race, you’re starting to see that that car is getting a little heavy on his shoulders, towing it along all day through the qualifying day and practice. They’re struggling to find the speed with that car. But they are grinding harder than anybody on the No. 1.
Kevin Harvick added.
NASCAR pundit agrees with Kevin Harvick
Trackhouse Racing’s struggles are not just visible to Kevin Harvick. NASCAR pundit Jordan Bianchi had similar opinions over the pace of the car and the struggles faced by Ross Chastain. Bianchi insisted that Chastain deserved the support of fans for pulling off some great finishes for Trackhouse. The pundit asserted that this was not easy for a driver when they have a car that lacks pace in qualifying.

Jordan Bianchi said on The Teardown podcast.
You look at Ross Chastain, we need to start giving Ross Chastain some love. He’s just turning in good finish after good finish. One, he’s not qualifying well. He’s not qualifying well because Trackhouse isn’t bringing great cars to the racetrack every week. They don’t have a lot of speed in the race car.
Jordan Bianchi reckoned that Chastain’s teammate Daniel Suarez was in the same boat as well. However, it was Ross Chastain who would’ve been the standout driver this year had Trackhouse given him a quick car.
Suarez too, to a lesser degree, but really, especially Chastain, this guy just grinds out finishes every single week. It’s like, man, if Trackhouse can just find some speed, you know Chastain is going to be able to go do his job. So impressive.
Jordan Bianchi added.
Certainly, Trackhouse is in a dire need to make their car quicker this year. The team could bring much better results if Ross Chastain has better runs in qualifying. Trackhouse Racing is trying its best to make improvements in the coming races. But it seems that there’s a tough road ahead for Chastain’s team.
