2004 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kurt Busch was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame, honouring his two-decade legacy in the sport. He won 34 races, including the 2017 Daytona 500 and was the maiden title winner of the chase era. It’s fitting that his HOF induction came in the same year the sport is going back to the original format.

The last chapter of Kurt Busch career was with 23XI Racing, co-owned by Denny Hamlin and NBA legend Michael Jordon. Racing for the basketball legend was a star struck moment the veteran, and he admitted that there are only a few people in the world that has the ex-Bull’s players aura. The champion racer also admitted that he was nervous during the contract signing.

MJ’s so cool. There’s only a few people in the world that have that aura. When I first signed on to race for him, I was a bit nervous. Holy crap, here he is. And when he shakes my hand, it was like three hand sizes of mine. I’m like, ‘Whoa!’

Kurt Busch said via NASCAR on YouTube.

The comments Michael Jordan made about Busch melted his heart. After signing the contract, the 23XI boss told Kurt Busch that he was hired because the driver race cars with his heart, just like what he did during his NBA days. The compliment was something that perfectly defined the veteran’s three decade long arcing career.

Why we want to hire you to start this second car at 23XI cuz you race like I played the game of basketball. You race from your heart. I about melted. It defined my 30 years out on the racetrack. That’s who I am. I raced from here (while pointing toward his chest).”

Kurt Busch added.

Kurt Busch remembers late teammate Greg Biffle

The NASCAR off season marked some tragic moments for the sport. Ex-Truck series champion Greg Biffle, along with his family, was killed in a tragic plane crash. During his Hall of Fame induction speech Busch remembered that late racer turned humanitarian.

The former champion was teammate with Biffle at Roush Racing from 2000 to 2005. They started together in the Truck Series before eventually making their way into the top tier. He played a major role in the latter’s success in the 2004 title winning season.

In the speech, Busch admitted that he doesn’t have words describe how significant the lose is for him and the community. He highlighted how close they were as teammate while racing in the elite division and urged everyone to be a kind human being like the late racing legend.

I can’t put the words together, but you and I were like peanut butter and jelly when we raced Cup together. And you were instrumental in helping me win a [Cup] championship. You will always be the Biff. Everyone be like Biff.

Kurt Busch said.

The comments from the former 23XI Racing drivers are on point and the majority of the racing community will agree with him. Its nice gesture from the veteran to honor Biffle and it will be interesting to see how the NASCAR community will continue to honor the racing legend.
