The NASCAR community is getting ready for a return to racing, after a tough off-season with the Clash at Bowman Gary Stadium and the Great American Race, Daytona 500 a week after.  The fans are set for a spectacle this year, with Hollywood legend Kurt Russell set play a key role in ahead the race start.

It was announced that Kurt Russell, who made a name for himself in the entertainment industry with movies such as Tombstone, Miracle, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, will be the honorary pace car driver for the event. He will lead the pack on lap one of the race that is scheduled to take place on Sunday, Feb. 15.

Talking about the opportunity, Kurt Russell admitted that he is really excited to part of the spectacle, The veteran is also looking forward to driving a race car after a long time. Last year also featured Hollywood star power in the seat, with Alan Ritchson, who made a name for himself with the successful Reacher Series, being in the driving seat.  

It’s incredibly exciting to be named the honorary pace car driver for this year’s Daytona 500. I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel, it’s been a long time since I’ve been in a race car.

President of Daytona International Speedway, Frank Kelleher shared his thoughts on Kurt Russell on his statement. He highlighted how the race one of the biggest cultural events in the motorsports Calander and how having a big star like Russell to be part of it is a special moment.

The DAYTONA 500 has always been bigger than a race. It’s a global event that blends competition, spectacle, and culture. Kurt Russell’s impact in entertainment mirrors what makes The Great American Race special – moments that endure long after the checkered flag.

Kurt Russell isn’t just making his appearance at Daytona 500 to show his appreciation towards racing, but is also part of his PR tour to promote his latest series. His much-awaited Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, set to make its global debut on Friday, Feb. 27 via Apple TV.

The race will also mark a new beginning for the sport, as it will be the first year since 2014, where NASCAR is going to use to original chase format. In an effort to make championship more credible, the sport decided to scrap the controversial playoffs format and go back to the original system.

The new format brings back authenticity and purity back to the sport, something the whole racing community has been asking for a long time. It would be interesting to see how the sport is going to change in the coming years with the change.
