For the seconds consecutive year, the Kyle Larson hype train over the Indy 500-Coke 600 double duty attempt has derailed. The Hendrick Motorsports driver came into this season event, after his debut attempt in 2024 was ruined by a pit-speeding penalty and rain delays, hoping for redemption. But he wasn’t able to produce a solid run, with Alex Palou winning at Indy and Ross Chastain at Charlotte.
Kyle Larson was running against the clock at Indy, as he had everything ready to rush him back Charlote for the Coke 600. But on lap 93 of the race, he crashed out in an incident involving Sting Ray Robb and Kyffin Simpson. This ended his IndyCar race early and he hoped on the plane to get back to Charlote.
He was determined to redeem himself at least at Charlotte Motor Speedway, but lady luck wasn’t on his side. Larson spun out while he was leading the race and that ruined any chance of his having a go at the race victory. After the race, the veteran was asked about attempting the double again in the future and in reply he detailed how demanding the schedule is.
I don’t know. It’s so fresh right now I don’t really have a good answer for you. The double is just a tough undertaking. The window of time is too tight. Even if I didn’t wreck, I don’t think I would have made It here on time and probably would have had to end that race short anyways.

He pointed out that all the hard work that was put into the attempt might seem not worth it, owing to the results. But that doesn’t mean he don’t want to run the Indy 500 again, as winning the crown jewel race has always been one of his dreams. It just that attempting the double duty again is a doubt, as the logistical factors to pull it off is too extreme.
So, I don’t really think it’s worth it. But I would love to run the Indy 500 again. Just doing the double I think is just logistically too tough.

Kyle Larson shares true feelings about the 2025 attempt
In another media session, Kyle Larson admitted that the last two years with the double duty attempt has been bad for him and his team. It was a bummer that for the second time in row, he didn’t get to complete the 1100 miles combined event. It’s a testament to how tough the driver before him had had it with the double attempt.

I think it would be fun. I don’t know, it’s been bad two years in a row … I’d love to run the Indy 500 again, but the double is just so tough. Just a bummer I didn’t get to complete it.

The comments from Kyle Laron hints that he might sideline his Indy 500 dreams at the moment and concentrate only on NASCAR for the upcoming years. Once he retires from full-time Cup racing, he will shift the focus to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway event and attempt to bring the trophy home, expanding his legacy.
The veteran should now work on moving on from the disappointment and should shift his focus to the remaining Cup races of the 2025 season, as he still has a championship to win. He also has many Sprint car and dirt racing events to compete this year and prove to everyone it was just some unlucky moments that that ruined his Indy 500 chances.
