The Southern 500 was a race where titans were destined to fight each other. The clash was between Kyle Larson and Tyler Reddick come the raceday and the HMS driver drove a brilliant race by leading 263 laps around Darlington. However, his efforts soon became undone as the No.45 driver snubbed the championship away by a solitary point. This led to the former Cup Series champion lamenting the fashion in which he lost the regular season title.

Kyle Larson started the race a few slots ahead of Tyler Reddick which urged experts to claim that the regular season title fight was over and the 23XI Racing driver should already be crowned the champion due to the points delta. Despite this, the 32-year-old set his sights on winning the race and overhauling the deficit in the championship. Though he could win the first two stages, he fell down the order when it mattered the most during the final stage.

It’s easy to look back at that. But as well as everybody, I mean I’m sure Reddick has a handful that he feels have gotten away. But I mean Iowa, Michigan, Chicago, that’s just a few. Charlotte, if I could have just gotten to race there. For us to come up a point short and spotting the field a race, I’m proud of that. But you know, would have liked to have won it.
Kyle Larson said in an interview with FrontStretch.

Larson elaborated that though Reddick might feel that he lost out in races, he had the sharper end of the sword pointed toward himself. Even at Charlotte, he was replaced after qualifying for the race so he reckoned that the single-point difference was not a lot at the end but admitted that winning the championship would have been better.

Kyle Larson gives his take on rumors speculating his stance on NASCAR switching the playoff format

NASCAR has often found itself on the receiving end of criticism lately. On the other hand, rumors were spooled around the garages regarding the regulatory body moving away from the title decider at Phoenix and favoring a three-race format where an average would determine who would become the Cup Series champion.

Subsequently, Larson’s name was brought into the mix as people speculated that the HM driver would like the three-race format. Though he won his first championship in an eventful fashion due to a late-race caution. However, the No.5 driver declined such claims and asserted that it is what it is and that he is fine with the current glamorous title showdown at Phoenix.

I think I’ve heard people mention that – I think I would be in favor of like a three-race little stretch to decide the champion, rather than just one at Phoenix. I don’t know that we’ll ever see that, but yeah for right now, it is what it is. You have to be good everywhere, especially at Phoenix.
Kyle Larson said.

Despite his stance, NASCAR has been experimenting with the calendar and a change like this would not shock a lot of fans. Thus, the stock-car racing sphere could get its next major overhaul ever since the last one a decade ago.
