Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson is one of the most versatile racers in the world. But when it comes to Superspeedway racing, the flexibility hasn’t been enough, as the veteran doesn’t have single win at Daytona, Talladega and Atlanta. On Sunday at Dega, he came painfully close to ending the winless streak, only to finish P26.

Kyle Larson found himself among the lead drivers on the final lap of the overtime and, but he started slowing down on the backstretch, fell down the order while Chase Briscoe secured the win, as hie No:5 Chevy unexpectedly ran out of fuel. Talking about the unfortunate result, Larson admitted it was the biggest bummer of a finish in his career.

Just unfortunate that it didn’t work out there. It started giving me a warning there in the middle of 1 and 2 and down the back it started stumbling, so I just got out of the way. It’s probably one of the more bummer superspeedway finishes I’ve had just because we were once again in contention…

What’s made it more disappointing is the fact, everything was going for his as planned, in terms of pace and positioning, before his luck ran out. But he is going back home with the belief that they can win a superspeedway race if they found themselves in a similar position in the future, as things will eventually work out for him if he can consistently remain in contention.

And it was right where I wanted to be, but it didn’t work out, so we’ll keep putting ourselves in contention, and it’ll eventually work out.

Kyle Larson shared his thoughts on the R-8 finale at Martinsville

The 2021 Cup Series champion is in a good spot going into the last race of the R-8, which will be hosted as Martinville, one his favorite track. He is P4 in the points table, 36 points ahead of the cutline, and just one point below Christopher Bell, the only driver besides him in the R-8 that can point their way into the Championship-4.

Everyone outside the cutline, has big point deficit and are in a must win situation. These factors make the upcoming weekend challenging for Larson and rest of the grid. Hence the primary objective of the Chevy driver for next Sunday is outperforming his TRD rival Bell on points.

You’ve got to assume that one of those guys below the cutline is going to win (at Martisnville). They’re all really good there. So, then kind of got to fight with (Christopher Bell) throughout the night and try to outpoint him.

Further talking about the point, Kyle Larson asserted that everyone in the R-8 has a strong Martinville package and he expects a tough race. He also pointed out that losing over 20+ spots worth points at the end of the Dega race was a huge disappointment for him, as he would have had a point advantage on Bell if not for the incident.

We have a decent Martinsville package, as does everybody in the Round of 8, so it’ll be a fight. Even if I didn’t win, I wish we would have had those 20 spots at least, so that part sucks. We executed a great day today. We’ll try to do the same next week.

Kyle Larson asserted.

The veteran seems to have a great plan for the upcoming weekend, outscore Bell and don’t try too much to win the race, considering five other drivers are more desperate to win than him. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the No:5 team next Sunday.
