Hendrick Motorsports’ 2021 Cup champion driver Kyle Larson has a really unique relationship with Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin. Off the track, the duo are good friends who spends time with each other, but when they are on the track, they most often act like arch-rivals in their duel for race wins.

They had multiple run-ins in the 2024 season so far, and often has some war of words after the race. But unlike the outsiders, Denny Hamlin reckons there isn’t any rivalry between him and Kyle Larson.  He made the claim ahead of the Nashville race week, and after the race that featured few run-ins between the two, the HMS driver addressed the comments.

Kyle Larson pointed out that he wouldn’t either agree or disagree with the comment. He pointed out that the rivalry is kind of a period thing as sometimes they race each other’s respectfully and sometimes not so clean. The No:5 Chevy driver admitted that he believes just like him, Hamlin would be feeling that he is raced unfairly during these duels.

I don't know. I mean, I wouldn't agree or disagree. It comes and goes. I feel like, you know, we race well together at times, and there's times where I feel like he races me, you know, not the fairest. And I'm sure he feels the same way.

So, yeah, I mean, it's not an ongoing rivalry, but there's definitely weeks and stretches where it compiles. (But, yeah, hopefully we can move on from it soon and get a little bit of respect from him.

At the moment, with both racers being in the fight for the championship with three win each, the rivalry doesn’t seem to on a path to an end. It would be interesting to see how their clashes playout this season and the coming years.
