The NASCAR Cup Series race last Sunday was wild and featured some chiastic moment including the two big wrecks caused the by the Team Penske Racing duo of Joey Logano & Ryan Blaney. Defending champion Kyle Larson winning the race after getting dropped from lead to P11 with just two corners left in the race was the most impressive moment of the weekend.
The victory wasn’t received positively by everyone in the racing community, as some accused NASCAR of not punishing the No:5 Chevy driver for crossing the yellow line on his final charge to victory. Though the replays and images didn’t show any conclusive proof that the veteran crossed the line, the conspiracy is yet to end. The veteran talked about the drama post-race.
I don’t know. I haven’t seen it, but yeah, I knew it was close and I’d have been really pissed at myself if I did go below because we crossed the finish line first. I’ve never done that in a Cup car, and to get it called back would have *****, but yeah, I’m not sure. Like I said, I knew it was close, but I haven’t seen a picture. I haven’t seen a video.
Kyle Larson said post-race.
The veteran is right that getting stripped of the win for the infraction would have been more heartbreaking than losing the Dega race to Ricky Stenhouse Jr. or William Byron, who finished the race alongside him. Kyle Larson is happy that his Chevy didn’t cross the line and NASCAR embarrassed him by taking away the win.
I don’t know, but I was fist pumping already. Like my momentum was taking me past the 47. I was fist pumping before I ever got to the line. So yeah, that would have been embarrassing if we didn’t win.
Kyle Larson added as reported via 5GOATS.
Cliff Daniels shares his verdict on the Talladega controversy
The No:5 team crew chief Cliff Daniels, who played a key role in helping the veteran to be a in a position to win the race, shared his thoughts on the controversy as well. He didn’t know there was almost an infarction till Larson told him about it in the victory lane.

I had no idea of that until Victory Lane. He’s like, ‘I got to be honest with you, I started cheering before I was even close to the line. I took my hands off the wheel. That’s why I almost went below the line.’
Cliff Daniels said.
He talked to the media without seeing a proper replay of the moment and joked about celebrating too early. The veteran team official didn’t have anything to worry about anyway as NASCAR ruled in their favor already before the triumph celebration.
I was like, ‘bro, are you serious right now (laughter)?’ I have not seen that replay. I only heard him tell the story he told. I can’t wait to see it. Debrief sheet this week. Don’t celebrate too soon (smiling).
Cliff Daniels added.
The No:5 team now has 73 points lead on Denny Hamlin at P2, with two more races left in the race. They now only can lose the championship if the mess up the car in the coming two weeks or suffer DNF. Unless the title is already in their hands.
