Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson is set to make his IndyCar debut this month at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He would be driving the HendricCars.com sponsored car for the IndyCar frontrunners, Arrow McLaren. Many in the racing community expects him to be a contender for the race win.

The Indy 500 week would be a tough for Kyle Larson as soon after the race at Brickyard, he has to catch a flight to charlotte for the Coke 600, the longest race in the Cup schedule. Ahead of this weekend’s Cup race at Darlington, the 2021 Champion was asked what he would do in case of a rain delay at Indy.

The Chevy driver confirmed that if the Indy 500 gets delayed beyond a certain point, he would ditch the race and will go to race in Charlotte Motor Speedway. He pointed out that Coco Cola 600 is the priority for him, as the race can make or break his chase for a second Cup Series championship.

Yeah, hopefully that doesn’t arise. But I’m not sure who the one is to make that call. I’m sure there’s a window of time that when it gets to a certain point I have to leave because the Coca-Cola 600 is the priority that weekend and chasing another NASCAR Cup Series championship is the priority.

IndyCar legend Tony Kanaan will replace Kyle Larson in case of emergencies

Kyle Larson further revealed that if any such unfortunate circumstances occur, he would be replaced by the legendary driver Tony Kanaan. He was the mentor for Larson during his training for the Indy 500. Larson is praying that he wouldn’t have to exit Indy 500 like that.

Yeah, I just hope that doesn’t come about (laughs). Tony Kanaan is there for reserve, if something like that does happen, to fill in for the (Indy) 500. But yeah, just pray that doesn’t happen.

The Motorsports fans would be hoping that Kyle Larson wouldn’t experience such an unfortunate situation that would make his efforts of a whole year goes to waste. He can inspire a lot of racers if he can produce solid performance at Indy and Charlotte the same week.
