Hendrick Motorsports’ reigning Cup Series champion Kyle Larson is one of the many racing dads in the sport knows the massive investment the role demands. His oldest son Owen and daughter Audrey is already racing in the lower division. There is also a high probability that his youngest son Cooper will follow his siblings to racing as well.
The veteran racer though doesn’t want to see this happen and got a valid reason for it. In his interview during the Bowman Gray clash media session, Kyle Larson admitted that he had to spend a lot of money in his two kids racing ventures so far and ideally, he doesn’t want to expand with one more child. But he understands it’s impossible to stop him from racing if his son wants to do it.
Well, racing is an expensive sport, and I’ve got two doing it currently. I’ve spent a lot of money here lately because we’re starting our own micro team for them. So, in a perfect world, I would love for Cooper not to race, but I know that’s probably impossible, so I don’t know.
Kyle Larson said during Bowman Gray clash media session.
The additional cost isn’t the only reason behind the sentiment, as he expects getting rides for his youngest will be the most expensive as he expects Cooper to tear up the most equipment’s in the car while racing. Larson seems passionate about trying to convince his son not to race.
So, we’ll see. I think he’ll be the most expensive, probably, because I’m sure he’ll be tearing up the most equipment. So, we’ll see if we can keep him out of it.

Kyle Larson admits he isn’t the best coach for his kids
In the same conversation Kyle Larson talked about how he coaches his kid and how he often tries to talk less to them. His too much-detailed oriented approach doesn’t suit what the kids want from him, as his advice often force them to think too much during the race.

I just I feel like my kids do better when I don’t talk to them…. I think I get a little too detailed and you know, then I think they’re probably out there trying to do what I say and they’re thinking too much rather than reacting to what’s going on the track.
Kyle Larson said.
During the Tuls shootout he overcoached his son Owen and the youngster has one of the worst races he had ever been. That made him realize that it’s better that he leaves the coaching to Chad Bow as the kids listen to him better.
So…I realized that the Tulsa shootout, you know…Owen did get to run a few divisions that once I showed up to town, like the first race I got to watch him, you know, I’m like trying to coach him and all that and that was the worst race he had all week. So, I was like, ‘All right, I’m just going to stop talking and let Chad Bow and the team coach him up because he seems to listen to them or relate to what they’re saying better than me.’
Kyle Larson added.
The comments show how being the best driver in the field doesn’t make someone the best teacher and it shows the important of a crew behind a drivers’ success. It would be interesting to see how the next generation of Larson is going to impact the stock car racing industry.
