Going into the Round of 8 Cup playoff opening race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Kyle Larson was considered by many as the front runner to win the race and secure the championship-4 spot. But he was able to only secure a P11 finish, while Joey Logano secured the race win with his solid fuels saving strategy, upsetting the remaining seven in the last eight.

The Hendrick Motorsports No:5 Chevy Camaro driver who has secured six wins so far this season was really disappointed with the results and admitted that it was a messy day for him. Kyle Larson admitted that getting debris stuck on his nose and overcoming that to secure a top 15 was a hard fight.

It was a messy, messy day. None of the first races in the rounds have been clean, at all, for us. But this was a long, hard-fought 11th-place finish. We just had a lot of unfortunate things happen with the debris that got stuck on our nose. We were able to overcome that and I thought we were going to be fine.

Kyle Larson told NBC.

The No:5 team was able to get out of the mess later in the race and able bounce back to secure the P11 finish. Kyle Larson is proud that his team was able to clean the mess and help him maximize on the points.

We had a strong finish in the second stage, and then we had the issues on the pit stop and just had to fight from there. We got the most we could out of the rest of the day. I’m proud of this No. 5 Chevy team for the rebound and having a clean rest of the race.

Kyle Larson’s teammate William Byron expresses similar disappointment

The journey at Las Vegas was a similar disappointment for Larson’s teammate William Byron. He also came in with the hopes of a race win, but had to settle for a P finish, which was the best finish from any of the HMS drivers. Still, he is disappointed about how things played out and hopeful that he can redeem himself in the coming races.

I thought we were going to have a shot to compete for a win there in the final stage, but it turned into a fuel mileage race. Just sucks. It’s going to take a win, I feel like, so we have to keep working for it and keep running up front. If we run up front, it will do two things – we’ll be able to compete for a win and score a lot of points. We just have to keep running like this.

William Byron said.

The No:24 Chevy driver will be more determined than ever to secure wins at Homestead and Martinsville. It will be interesting to see if the HMS duo will be able to bounce back and secure a place in the championship-4.
