Kyle Larson is one of the biggest racing personalities in the US. The 32-year-old is never afraid of pushing his rivals to the limit on-track. A similar situation unfolded during the World of Outlaws weekend at Eldora Speedway, as the HMS star escalated tensions with Outlaw veteran David Gravel.
During Saturday’s Knight Before race, Larson and Gravel found themselves battling for position. The two pulled off an amazing duel, which took the spotlight. Though, David Gravel was far from happy with the NASCAR star. After the race, he lashed out on Larson in the media, claiming that the 32-year-old had a vendetta against him.
Gravel’s comments sparked controversy in the field. Ultimately, Kyle Larson responded in order to narrate his side of the story. The HMS star made it clear that the Outlaw veteran was indeed his friend, and there was no ulterior motive for his hard racing. Rather, Larson clarified that he simply had no hard feelings against David Gravel.
I do consider him a friend and I would say that hard racing that I show or whatever out there, is more due to the things that have been going on behind the scenes for a year and a half. I’ve got no hard feelings with David at all.
Kyle Larson told Jayski.
Moreover, Kyle Larson pointed out that building aggressive rivalries would ultimately benefit racing. Particularly, when it’s a NASCAR star and an Outlaw veteran, a dream crossover for American racing fans. Larson insisted that his rivalry with Gravel was not fabricated, and it really did get created on-track.
It’s good for the sport to build up the rivalries more, even between the two series and you have two top guys going at it. I think that’s what every sport wants is rivalries and fan bases need it. It’s an authentic one, which is good.
Kyle Larson added.
David Gravel makes a strong response to Kyle Larson
Following the race, Kyle Larson tried to make a lighthearted post on X. The HMS star uploaded a picture from the race, where he and David Gravels almost made contact. Larson joked that the two were simply discussing the Outlaw veteran’s contract for the 2027 season. So much so, that the 32-year-old claimed that the main topic of discussion was for Gravel to learn how to race against the best in the field.

David Gravel was in no mood for banter. The Outlaw veteran made it clear that it was time for Larson to open his eyes and understand what real respect in racing meant. Gravel hit out not only on the NASCAR star but even his fanbase, claiming that they were fools if they thought the 32-year-old raced with respect. Though, he did make a hilarious remark about wanting a good contract from the HMS driver.
Two of your top drivers got hurt this week maybe that would open your eyes on how to race with respect. If you and all your fans think that how you race in a sprint car is racing with respect you are fooled. I will take all the smoke. As far as the contract better make it good.

Kyle Larson is infamous for taking things to the extreme on-track. The Eldora Speedway incident is not one that would surprise his fans. However, David Gravel is really not someone who would enjoy such antics be it on or off the track. Thus, it seems that this beef could potentially continue in the coming weeks.
