The 2025 NASCAR Cup season witnessed one of the most dramatic season finales as fan favorite Kyle Larson tool advantage over overtime drama to win the championship over sentimental favorite Denny Hamlin. He won his second Bill France Cup, after two-tier stop gamble played out perfect for him, earning him the title despite not leading a single lap in the race.

The NASCAR community has mixed feelings about the win, as some didn’t like the fact that the No:5 team driver won the championship due to a lucky caution. This has even made some claim that the HMS driver stole the title, discrediting the impressive performance from the Chevy team throughout the season.

Recently, Kyle Larson has addressed these claims and hilariously admired that he did stole the title. The veteran pointed out that it was the handwork of his team, perfect execution and a bit of luck, what earned him the title. Executing when it mattered the most got him the title as the No:11 Toyota team of Denny Hamlin could’ve won if they were able to replicate their rivals.

I mean, yes and no. Sure, yeah we stole it, but our team did a really good job. I think that’s what I’m most proud of. Just how quickly we kind of turned our race around, obviously, due to some good fortune with cautions and the correct pit calls and strategy. Which weren’t clear decisions, either, and everybody kind of executed when they needed to.

The veteran insisted that not leading the finale doesn’t make them undeserving champions and as they deserve the respect for working extra hard to be producing at the end. He also highlighted the impressive season they have had, three wins, 15 top-5 finishes, 22 top-10 finishes, 1,106 laps led, and a 13.2 average finishing position, which would’ve made him the champion in the original full-0seaosn format anyway.

So, yeah, we didn’t dominate the race by any means, not even leading a lap, but I feel like our team did the best job, and we are deserving champions in that respect. And two, when you look at it, we did have a great season with laps led and consistent finishes and top-fives and top-10s. We were in the top two in basically every category. So, it was a great year and I’m proud of that.
