Coming into this weekend’s race at Bristol Motor Speedway, the reigning Cup champion Kyle Larson is under significant pressure. He hasn’t won a single race since the Kansas race last May and his best finish so far this season has been the P3 at Phoniex. It’s almost a full-season long winless run and the HMS fans are not happy.
In his most recent interview with Fox Sports’ Bob Pockarss, the two times champion addressed the point and admitted that he isn’t too bothers with the streak, as he is tasting wins anyway in the sprint car outings. But he did admit that his last win coming almost a year before is a wild stat, considering they are not close to being as bad in terms of performance as the it might suggest.
Yes and no. I would say more no than yes, and I think, too, running dirt races and getting wins in that probably makes it seem like it hasn’t been that long ago. It’s kind of wild to think that it’s almost been a year since I’ve won because I don’t feel like we’re that bad.
Kyle Larson said in a recent interview with Bob Pockarss.
Kyle Larson has a 31-race winless streak. But he also won a Cup title in that span. So does it feel like he is on that long of a winless streak? @NASCARONFOX pic.twitter.com/bbCGLZVKjw

One reason that streak doesn’t mean much for Kyle Larson is the fact that he won the championship in the 2026 finale at Phoenix. But still, he wants to get back to the victory lane and go up the championship, from the P9 spot he is currently occupying. The No:5 crew is working hard behind the scene to make it happen.
Ultimately, celebrating the championship in Phoenix felt like a win in a lot of ways. But yeah, we wanna get back to Victory Lane. We’re working as hard as we’ve ever worked, I feel like as a group, and we want to win. It’s just gotten really tough for whatever reason.
Kyle Larson added.
The veteran then talked about the upcoming races, including this Sunday’s showdown at Bristol. He pointed out that the No:5 Chevy team has been strong in the upcoming venues and asserted that with the right execution, they will be competitive. He also highlighted how the winless run has also reminded everyone it’s not as easy as it seems in NASCAR to win.
Got some good tracks coming up for us. Hopefully, we can do a good job and execute. But yeah, this series is tough. I know a lot of times we made winning look easy, but it’s not, and I’ve never felt it was easy. Just gotta keep working at it.
Kyle Larson asserted.
Kyle Larson explains the short memory phenomena in NASCAR
In a separate interview, Kyle Larson talked about the short mummery some in NASCAR has while addressing hi struggles. He highlighted how after a handful of races into 2026 nor the rivals or himself see the No:5 as the champion car from 2025. Everyone has moved on and is focused on the next acre and trophy.

I feel like our sport has got such short memory that at least in the competitor side of it, where, at least for me, like I didn’t really think about who had won the championship the year before, and I don’t feel that either. So, we’re just all out there, every one of us, trying to do the best job we can.
Kyle Larson said.
The comments from the veteran driver shows the competitive side of the sport and how the drivers like Kyle Larson are always hungry for wins. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the veteran in the 2026 season, with momentum back at HMS garage after Chase Elliott’s win at Martinsville.
