Unlike his 2021 championship triumph that saw him dominating, winning ten races the year, the 2025 title win was challenging for Kyle Larson. He started the season comparatively better before experiencing a massive performance slump that almost lasted two months. It all started with the disappointing double duty attempt.
Kyle Larson attempted the iconic Indy 500-Coke 600 double for the second time hoping for redemption from last season. Unfortunately, he failed with DNF at Indy and a painful race loss at Charlotte. The mentally draining event cost him confidence for some time and at the same time, the HMS car development took the wrong turn as well, making him suffer more.
There was definitely some truth to mentally draining with how just didn’t do a good job, so kind of down, myself then lost confidence all at the same time. And then I think our race cars got little bit down the wrong path on our race cars, and we didn’t quite realize it for a while.

But it was a blessing in disguise for the No:5 ream, as Cliff Daniels and his crew took advantage of the opportunity to perfect their execution. On his latest interview, he admitted that the poor performance at Darlington was the eye-opening moment for the team as it gave them the motivation to make a quick turnaround, become competitive again.
I actually think being as slow as we were made us a better, stronger team as far as execution. And then we went to Darlington, and then struggled as a whole, eye-opening, I think. And then we quickly figured out where we had gotten off in those couple of months, and then I feel like we got back on track in competitive and running up front.

Kyle Larson reveals the career option his son has other than racing
On his interview with Fox Sport after the championship win, Kyle Larson talked about his and his children’s future. He pointed out that alongside racing he wants his son Owen to try golfing, as he already got a good swing and its lot cheaper than racing. Young money believes his got what it takes to be great casual golfer at the moment.

Any stick-and-ball sport would be cheaper than racing… Golf would be great. Owen’s actually got a really good golf swing, nice and smooth. We’ve just got to find the time to get him out there more often, he would. I think, [he can] be a really good golfer on the casual side of golfing.

Golfing has the possibility if becoming a great non-racing activity, the father and son can bond, but unfortunately with the busy racing schedule the Chevy veteran rarely gets to play. When asked about it, he admitted that he hasn’t been able to play more than seven or eight rounds so far this year.
I don’t play much golf anymore. I just don’t have the time for it. And when I do have the time for it, I don’t want to take the time for it. So, I’ve only probably played seven or eight rounds this year.
Kyle Larson said earlier.
The veteran is already getting ready to get behind the wheels of a racing car, just two weeks after his title win, as he is set to race in a regional dirt racing event at Placerville Speedway. So, he will have to wait more to play another round of golf.
